In the other graduation ceremony, Kerrey to address Webster

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Washington University’s commencement ceremony might be getting all the ink, but it’s not the only show in town.

Webster University will honor its class of 2008 on Saturday with help from speaker Bob Kerrey, the former U.S. Senator and governor of Nebraska.

Kerrey has had a long, and diverse, career in public service. He earned the Medal of Honor as a Navy Seal in Vietnam. After leaving Cornhusker country, he went to the Big Apple, becoming president of the New School in Greenwich Village and falling so much for the city that he even flirted with running for mayor.

Kerrey also served on the 9/11 Commission.

Despite losing the 1992 Democratic presidential nomination to Bill Clinton, Kerrey was an early supporter of Hillary Clinton’s run for the White House.

This week, Kerrey told the New York Observer that Clinton has every right to stay in the race - at least for now.

“Speaking as someone who’s been a candidate, it’s offensive to me to hear pundits talking about how Hillary ought to get out,” Kerrey told the newspaper.

Come June 3 though, when Montana and South Dakota hold the final primaries, it might be a different story.

“At some point between now and the third of June, if things stay the way they are now,” Kerrey said, “my guess is that she’ll make that call, make a gracious concession and then rally behind Barack Obama and rally her supporters behind Barack Obama.”
