Logjam breaks
The House started up at 9 this morning, apparently well rested. Within the first hour, members approved a bill filed in response to last year’s suicide of Dardenne Prairie teen Megan Meier, a wide-ranging immigration bill and — wait for it, a honest-to-goodness repeal of the village law.
That’s right. After a long night in the Senate, the House took up the bill and easily passed it this morning with little debate.
Over in the Senate, Sens. Jack Goodman and John Griesheimer looked relieved.
“I’m not a fillabusterer,” Griesheimer said. “I wasn’t ready to play bad cop.”
The village law repeal will now be forwarded to the governor. The immigration and cyberbullying bills still face final Senate approval.
Oh, and now the House has passed the property tax bill. Wheaties are in short supply in Jeff City.
