Mike Roberts, state rep? Not so fast

Mike Roberts Jr., the 29-year-old son of former alderman and millionaire developer Mike Roberts Sr., was spotted at a function near the Loop this week wearing a name tag identifying himself as the state representative for the 64th District.

Thing is, Roberts isn’t the representative — he’s only a candidate for the spot.

That become abundantly clear when the actual state representative, Rachel Storch, walked into the room.

Roberts, we’re told, later removed the name tag.

Storch, who led Hillary Clinton’s campaign in Missouri, has the backing of, among other Democrats, State Party chairman John Temporiti – who rarely endorses a primary candidate.

Roberts volunteered for Barack Obama, framing his battle with Storch as a proxy battle between the presidential rivals.

Even so, it’s considered a political faux paus to challenge a scandal-free incumbent in a party primary — especially Storch, who was picked by colleagues to lead the Democrats’ State House campaign committee.

Roberts, though, appears undeterred — if nothing else, he’s showed he’s not afraid to play the part.

Word is he’s also been seen posing as VP of Roberts, Inc.

This kid should get real. Storch is doing a great job.

According to an ad in ALIVE magazine, he is also running for prom king of a casino. I’m serious- you can’t make this stuff up. He needs to do some serious growing up before he tries to represent real people. He’s obviously just running for public office to stroke his ego.

I am not familiar with Mr. Roberts, but his lack of judgment thus far should make him a consideration for no one when thinking of replacing Rachel Storch. She has leadership in her own party, and works effectively with members of the Republican leadership to further promote our area. She is a reason we should repeal term limits. Send Rachel back to JC convincingly so others dont perceive this process to be a game that those with resources should have an advantage over those with hard genuine work to show for their results.
