Mo GOP targeting 300 pro-Ron Paul at Monday ‘credentials meeting’

According to an email from some Missouri supporters of Ron Paul, sent late Sunday night, the state Republican Party has scheduled a special “credentials meeting” for 10 a.m. Monday at the  Blue Armory in Jefferson City.

At the meeting, according to the email, about 300 of the 1,900 elected delegates to the state GOP convention May 30-June 1 must disprove allegations that — presumably — accuse the targeted delegates of not being bona fide Republicans and/or not committed to supporting John McCain for president.

“The state Central Committee spent approximately $1,000 on certified mailings that do not even state the allegations,” said the email sent from one challenged delegate. “A small group of insiders in the Missouri Republican Party are attempting to prevent delegates, properly elected at their county caucuses, from attending the state Convention in Branson…

“Although many have repeatedly attempted to find out the basis of the challenges, these 300-plus delegates have been left in the dark and forced to travel great distances, some well over 100 miles, to finally learn the charges against them. Challenged delegates will be limited to a mere five minutes to respond to the charges with no time to prepare.”

Those challenged include “current Republican Committee members, members of  the Missouri Republican Assembly, current Republican candidates, and attendees of previous conventions, with the only common factor being that they voted for Republican Congressman Ron Paul during the primary.”

Here’s a few examples cited in the email:

Laura Mize: “As a 78-year-old long-time Republican voter and the daughter of a lifetime staunch Republican from Southeast Missouri, I voted for the only man that represents the principles of the Republican Party as taught by my father and now they want to throw me away like an old newspaper.  Well, they have started a fire instead!  I’m so angry, I will show up even if I have to be carried on a stretcher!”

Eric Vought, Republican Committeeman from Springfield: “Having just worked to sell tickets for one fundraiser and putting together a donation for their silent auction, it disturbs me that they are spending $3.60 per certified letter, times a few hundred delegates to challenge all of these people. Why should I bother raising money for them if this is how they choose to spend it?”

Tom Klein of St. Louis County:  “I thought we were the ‘party of the open door’ as resolved in the National Party Rules. Well, now that door is being slammed in my face!  I know the vast majority of us Republicans are very good people but you know what they say… All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”

The Paul supporters assert that similar actions are happening elsewhere.

“Across the nation, including Oklahoma, Nevada and Texas, the time and location of conventions have been changed at the last minute and party insiders have attempted to sneak in ‘delegates’ to inflate their numbers who were never elected at their local caucuses.“

“Others have walked out with crucial documents belonging to the convention, convention Chairmen have run roughshod over the rules of order by refusing to recognize delegates not from their faction, and some have simply walked out shutting off the lights to the convention hall as they did in Nevada.”

“Because of growing concern over honesty and integrity in government, a new group is being founded, Statesmen for our Constitutional Republic, to educate voters about the inner workings of our political mechanisms, encourage and teach people to be active leaders in our government, the Republican Party, and, especially, our communities. …”

A co-founder of the group, Curtis Abbott of Springfield, Mo., says, “”It is a sad day when much of the public believes that their  involvement no longer matters because ‘the insiders’ have already decided who is going to win and those most involved suppress their own conscience to support the lesser of two evils. “We are setting up monthly caucuses where the real issues will be discussed, we are going to the high schools and colleges to raise up the next generation of Statesmen, and we are pledging ourselves to high ideals of principle, conduct, and courage. What we do matters greatly; how we do it matters every bit as much.  We mustn’t merely know what is right: we must have the courage to do it.”

If you want to make a protest that the Republican leadership will notice, vote for all the Libertarian party candidates in November. Losing elections is the only thing that will get these people’s attention. Besides the Libertarians, to a man, will be closer to Ron Paul’s philosophy than 99% of the republicans.

Ahhh - propaganda and emotional appeal. Very nice. If you did a tiny amount of research, you would find that these “disruptions” as you call them were actually appeals to the power-hungry committee favorites that refused to follow the rules and refused to give TRUE CONSERVATIVES a voice at the caucuses and conventions. I have no doubt that had you been alive during the 1st Revolution you would have been one of the Loyalists saying, “OK, King George isn’t that bad - shouldn’t we all get along for the good of the British Empire? All these disturbances are doing is making the King angry and I don’t want to risk my business or money”

“Sensible Conservatives”? Do you really mean Neoconservatives? I think you do. If you put neoclassic columns on a building, they are new or better classic pieces of architecture, they are “false” classic architecture. Just like the “Neoconservatives” are “False Conservatives”. Using that term is kind of like saying “Compassionate Communists”

“Move-On.org”??? Conservatives with actual principles (I know….you don’t really understand how that works) are the same as a pop-culture propaganda machine? Nice Try.

Paul Guy, You Wrote:

“Remember, Missouri is a winner-take-all State, you are required by the rules, because McCain had over 50% of the vote to vote for him in the first go around.”

First, I think the idea of a winner-take-all state is unethical, but perhaps that is a discussion for another time. When I was writing possible rules resolutions, I think a proportional number or an unbinding of half the national Delegates is fair. Secondly, McCain only received 34% of the votes. So, what you are saying is that 66% of Missouri Republicans need to shut-up and vote against their principles and political philosophy even though they are the majority. Third, no one I have ever talked to said they would not abide by the rules. Asuming that is a blatant slur against honorable people. Now, changing the rules is a possibility, but it is a democratic process to do so. I highly doubt that will be achieved and Missouri Delegates will vote for McCain on the first ballot as the rules require. The second round will get interesting, however.

“There are many non-Republicans and so called ‘anarchist’ groups that have inflitrated our ranks trying to cause problems.”
REALLY?? I have never met one. Do you have any evidence of another blatant slur? You must work for the FBI or BATF, every time there is a public protest, those in attendance are labeled: “Anarchists”. You scare the hell out of me. How is tyring to restore Constitutional Government anarchy?? Oh….you didn’t learn that in your “anti-terrorism in Iowa” classes.

If you have to be a McCain supporter to attend the convention, then how will you find any delegates? Its been my experience, in Florida, that McCain has no supporters. There are 10 Ron Paul Meet/Up groups in the Tampa Bay area alone with thousands of very active volunteers, there is only one McCain Meet/Up in all of Florida, with only 3 members (who have never met.) McCain seems to be a creation of the Main Stream Media, who needs a sacrificial lamb to be offered up to the Bush-Clinton alter.

Do these delegates for McCain, realize that they will have to pay $3,500 each to attend the National Convention. Will they then nominate a candidate who has exceeded the spending limits and commits a felony everytime he spends a dollar. Someone who is ineligible to be President, because he was born outside the USA. Someone who filmed 32 war propaganda commercials for the North Vietnamese, do you not think these videos will be plastered all over every media in the world. Someone who did a practical joke (wetstart) on the USS Forrestal, and killed 132 sailors, burnt to a crisp. A person who kicked aside the wounded so that he could escape on the first rescue helicoptor so that his shipmates couldn’t strangle him. Why don’t we just pledge our allegiance to Hanoi Jane. He wasn’t shot down over North Viet Nam, on his next assignment, his shipmates sabotaged his jet so he would crash in enemy territory. Maybe, he will be able to explain away his two Vietnamese children (who attended the U of Colorado), that he fathered in North Viet Nam while serving in solitary confinement. He is a despicable traitor.

Dr Ron Paul’s record is spotless. Dr Paul actually has a cure for the problems of this country, to eliminate the Federal Reserve and the illegal Federal Income Tax. He will create world peace by reeling in the Empire’s Stormtroopers and bring them home to defend our country.

I guess that my biggest fear in a McCain Administration is his selling our Constitutional rights down the river to make a deal with the Democrats to get a pet project through. Sign off on a assault weapons ban to get a tax break, just be the McCain that most Republicans have grown to dislike. Most of the victories that secured his nomination were won with several candidates in the race and McCain not even getting 40% of the vote. Once Romney quit, it was over…he was the only candidate besides Ron Paul that really had the money to keep running, and he had a more mainstream message than Paul. If the GOP were operating under Democrat rules with no winner take all states, the nomination likely is still in question.

Speaking to the Nevada Convention, as well as Maine, Oklahoma and pending in Missouri, I have a couple of thoughts. Number One, since when did the Republican Party become the New Communist Party, with only one candidate and that candidate’s ideas being the only thing that good Republicans can stand for? That is utter crap, and I will continue to applaud the almost 30 percent of voters that vote against McCain (and don’t be surprised if Ron Paul’s numbers improve in NC and IN today) in Pennsylvania. All this philosophy is going to cause is resentment from the Paul contingent, as well as good, solid Conservatives who just bristle at the thought of John McCain. Number Two, McCain refuses to speak to the Conservative base, being the Maverick that he has been his entire career…he is going to do it his way. Well, let me be blunt, his was is going to cause a President Hillary or President Obama in the fall, because the Paul folks and true Conservatives will either stay home or vote third party and let the chips fall where they may. Four years of Barack/Hillary…the Conservative and Constitutional movements will take over the GOP and the days of McCain type Republicans will be over. McCain and his ilk can go be Lieberman type Democrats…see you later, have a nice day, don’t call us we’ll call you.

At least we know what Barack/Hillary means to the country, we still don’t know when McCain will screw the Conservative movement over.

I was at the “hearings” yesterday. I am a long time Republican, have never voted for any other party. I am one of the “challenged” in St. Charles County. I sat through the interrogation, and found it insulting. I asked who filed the challenge, but they refused to tell me. I found out after I left the room that the man who filed the challenge against the entire county caucus, all 137 delegates to the state convention, was sitting on the credentials committee and was one of the ones asking me to defend myself. If this is an unbiased process, how can the man who filed the challenge also decide on the challenge? This party that i have been faithful too for 34 years of voting is proving itself corrupt. This is no longer a conspiracy theory, it is conspiracy fact.

Why are people talking about the national convention? The presidential preference is one thing, but if you have district conventions, etc.. to pick delegates to the State convention and those people honestly and fairly won their delegate slots at the district conventions, how can they (and everyone who voted for them) be disenfranchised by the party?

People are confusing two things: National Republican Party nominating convention (held in MN) & MO GOP state convention/district assemblies. The Ron Paulers can help shape the MO GOP party platform - they are missourians and have every right to do so. If all you haters who didnt show up to your district conventions (after voting for McCain the preference primary) then you have forfeited any RIGHT OR PRIVELEDGE to complain about the people who did and the votes they made. You have only yourselves to blame for that.

I do blame you for voting for McCain at all - as it shows a complete lack of intelligence and a willingness to simply follow what some person in authority told you to do. For a party founded on the principle of liberty & limited government you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Great article!

This is what happens when the people who represent themselves as “Party Leaders” don’t have everything their own way. They are so accustomed to voters just doing as they are told and failing to use their own analytical abilities to select a candidate, when people DO use their analytical abilities, party leaders begin trying to crack whips and eliminate people.
If the GOP hasn’t figured out by now that their Neo-Con agenda is unacceptable to most freedom loving Americans, then they are so completely deluded and powermad, there is no saving them from themselves.
Ron Paul will be my choice in November, no matter who is or isn’t on the ballot. Bush’s legacy is nothing but war, global famine, and hyperinflation. If the 3 media darling candidates were anything but puppets of the people who put Bush in office, they wouldn’t be media darling candidates.
Incidentally, oil closed at $121.84 per barrel today.
Vote Ron Paul.

I’m 66 yrs old and I know a mafia government when I see one. “Of, By and For, Themselves” The Republican Party has one totally true Republican and that is Congressman Ron Paul, a true Statesman and the ONLY reason I’m still a republican. My vote will be for Ron Paul, regardless of the treacherous crookedness of either party. The total controlled news media is just a sad cartoon to me.

As I watched the election results, not a single mention on how many votes Ron Paul received. And I know of thousands of people in this area who did vote for him. And everyone has been brain washed to think McCain is the only one in the race. And it does seem the fix is in, the big money of the Fed Reserve machine has bought and sold our future to finalize corporatizing of our government. Welcome to 1984 !!!
