New ad: Steelman has the “guts” to be governor

Sarah Steelman has a new campaign commercial out, portraying her as tough on illegal immigration and big business.

The 30-second spot boasts that, when other politicans were trying to push “sweetheart business deals, treasurer Sarah Steelman’s steely resolve stopped them.”

Though the alliteration is impressive, it’s not immediately clear exactly what deal she’s talking about it.

Steelman is slightly less vague about her criticism of a state-funded housing project that was using illegal immigrants for labor, a reference to the O’Fallon Lakes project in St. Charles County, where several workers were arrested in 2006.

The ad ends with Steelman sitting on her family porch, with the narrator telling us she has what it takes to be governor: “guts” and “Missouri experience.”

This is the second television ad for Steelman, who is running against U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof in the Republican primary for governor. Her earlier piece focused on family values.

“when other politicans were trying to push “sweetheart business deals, treasurer Sarah Steelman’s steely resolve stopped them” probably refers to the unsuccessful attempt of then Sen prez pro tem Peter Kinder to get state funding for new Busch Stadium, which was stopped by a filibuster by then Sen. Steelman, in spite of Kinder’s threats to withhold funding from UM Rolla in her district. However, its specific mention of “treasurer” Sarah Steelman may refer to actions she took on a state housing board against attempts by fellow board member Jay Nixon to reward campaign contributors. Whoever occupy the offices of state treasurer and attorney general are members of that board.

She has certainly showed experience this week. How to accept stem cell money, how to hide political donations, how to be ethically challenged.
That all showed great leadership and experience.

Sarah has a proven track record of conservative leadership. She loves her family and Mr. Johnson: you need to shut your mouth and quit spreading rumors of issues you know absolutely nothing about. Who are you to say she doesn’t have family values?

Who’s value: you’re insane. Get the facts straight.
