Paul exhorts 1,500 Mo supporters to hold fast, fight for liberty

BRANSON — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, who continues to be a thorn in the side of his party and presumptive nominee John McCain, said Friday night that he won’t endorse McCain or campaign for him.

“I can’t support anybody who supports the war,” Paul said, in a brief interview while he signed hundreds of copies of his book brought to Friday night’s “Freedom Rally” by some of his supporters.

Paul reaffirmed, however, that he won’t conduct a third-party candidacy.

About 1,500 turned out Friday night to hear Paul for an hour at the Tri-Lakes Center. (The estimate came from the building manager; yours truly counted at least 1,000.)

“We need to lead the Republican Party kicking and screaming back to its senses,” he said, in remarks that prompted repeated standing ovations.

Many of those ovations came as Paul laid out his key views:

End the war in Iraq;

Repeal the Patriot Act;

Get rid of the federal income tax;

Eliminate the Federal Reserve Bank;

Get the U.S. out of the UN;

Get the U.S. out of the World Bank, the IMF and other international bodies;

Slash federal spending;

Paul blasted the Bush administration for the way it has attacked terrorism. The U.S. either gives money to countries, or attacks them, he said. The U.S. rarely just talks to nations, Paul added.

The Bush administration seems to focus on bombing countries “incapable of attacking us,” he said, using Iraq as Exhibit A.

Referring to former Iraq leader Saddam Hussein, Paul said, “As bad as he was, he wasn’t a threat to us.”

Paul accused the administration of using terrorists and the war as an excuse to eliminate personal rights.

“…We don’t need secret courts and secret prisons,” he said. “…They say we’re being attacked because we’re free and rich. Their thinking seems to be ‘if we’re less free, they won’t attack us…’ “

Paul also called for a return to habeas corpus (The guaranteed right for a person to go before a judge when charged with a crime.)

Several hundred of the Paul supporters in Branson are to be delegates Saturday morning at the state Republican Party’s once-every-four-years convention.

The delegates and alternates had a private meeting with Paul and his state leaders late Friday night, presumably to discuss how to proceed. About half of the pro-Paul delegates have been challenged by state GOP leaders, so it’s up to the convention to decide if any of them get seated.

In his address, Paul blamed the rise in gasoline prices and the shipping of jobs overseas, in part, to monetary problems that have weakened the U.S. dollar.

“We owe $13 trillion to foreigners,” he said.

He blasted what he called a “flawed monetary system, a flawed economic system…a flawed foreign policy that has to be changed.”

Before the rally, state Treasurer Sarah Steelman stopped by to talk to Paul supporters milling in the lobby as they waited for the doors to open to the auditorium where the rally was held.

Steelman, a Republican running for governor, said later that she did so to appeal for their votes.

Well folks here it goes.

McCain is the Republican Nominee, Obama is the Democrat Nominee, and then Bob Barr is the Libertarian Nominee.

All I’ve gotta say to the McCainnanites, You’ve gotta really dig deep, and choose between the lesser of the two evils, Bob Barr, or Obama.

A vote for the lesser of two evils, still begets evil. Your vote is your sanction for the positions and principles (or the lack thereof) of your chosen candidate. Therefore, such a defensive vote is a myopic, short-term strategy that inevitably leads to a darker future for us all.

The only way to turn back this process is to vote for that which you believe is right. Taking only one step back instead of two, will never get us moving forward.

I could care less who wins, Republocrat or Democon. What should be important to everyone is whoever gets picked should fulfill their job according the country’s rule book, the Constitution. When you are watching professional sports everyone expects the judges to not take sides or have their own agenda. They are expected to make sure that both sides stick to the rules. I don’t see why a President or any other person “SWORN” to uphold and defend it should have a “platform” The platform has been laid out since 1776 and if the rules are to change, there are appropriate ways to do it and that doesn’t mean voting for the next Dictator because you like the platform of that Dictator. For those of you that think America is a Democracy or that the Federal Reserve is Federal, please do your country and the rest of us a favor by staying home on election day. You are far too uninformed to be choosing our next leader. The only exception to this is if you were to go and write in Ron Paul’s name. For those of you who just can’t figure out what it is going through the minds of the Paul supporters I would suggest for starters watching the online videos Overview of America and America Freedom to Fascism. I think I can speak for most Paul supporters when I say that living in this country is like being on an ice burgh where the majority of the people want to ride it out while the Paul people are screaming from the roof tops to get off the burgh and into the boat but Americans think the boat is too nutty of an idea.

Those who chose our current “Government” can be called the “electorate”. The electorate is a group. It is not any individual. The problem is getting this group, not just any individual, to choose people who will support freedom. It may not be possible. You cannot change human nature. That’s why we need a combination of the following activities. 1. The few whistle blowers who we can get into power. 2. A Bob Schultz type approach - forcing the courts to honor the right to redress grievances. Support those two goals and freedom will eventually prevail for the group that never gives up fighting for it.

Anthony is correct. If everyone would vote their conscience for a change instead of the lesser of two evils then soon we would have good candidates to pick from.

How much more evil can this country stand?

Since Paul is refusing to run a third-party ticket, he has essentially “principled” himself out of the race. Why DIDN’T he seek the Libertarian vote once it became clear that Repubs had chosen four more years of the same? As it stands, now Paul has chosen to help a huge chunk of the electorate disenfranchise themselves, because they cannot vote for ANY of the available candidates! Why can’t you be principled in an Independent ticket? At least give us the chance to vote!

“”If this be treason, make the most of it!…The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.”-Patrick Henry

No matter which the Entrenchment Ticks wins and embeds itself into the flesh of this country, be sure that they will continue to suck the life blood from this People. McCain, Clinton or Obama will do absolutely nothing to make the necessary changes needed to restore this country or even give it a degree of hope outside of the empty promises and sweet sounding slogans.

This government is now so-far-removed from its Constitutional foundation that few would recognize it as a Republic operating under a system of real federalism. What a pity that the vast majority of politicians don’t realize that the solutions to most of the problems can be easily found by restoring the use of Constitutional Principles. If you noticed, most of the problems we face come about when the politicians get some grand new idea, some new policy or program. They are trying to build without the blueprint, operate without the directions and the evidence is clear that simply doesn’t work. The best minds in Washington don’t compare to the wisdom of the Founders.

“Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government.”–James Madison

Indeed that is exactly what we have seen in this country is a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government. Because of the use of such arbitrary interpretation and therefore application, I think we should not be surprised when someone like Bush overtly trespasses against the Constitution. The Constitution’s standing in this country has been neutralized by a variety of political philosophies, the least of these are those who advocate original intent based upon a Christianized view of the founding of this country. Others have simply sought to render it so flexible that it no longer retains the viability of protection that they claim to support. These factions fail to see the meanings behind the principles, those both philosophical and practical. The principles, upon which the Constitution was structured, in a real sense, are neither totally static nor dynamic, but both and are essential to good government and to the pursuit of happiness by the people.

This country has not seen such a critical a time in our political concerns as we now face and it is primarily due to the fact that we have allowed various political ideologies to arbitrarily interpret the Constitution to fit their particular ideological points of view. Today, our country not only stands before a period of extremes, but dangerous extremes that could, with ease, erase what we have always considered as particularly and essentially the American guarantee of the individual’s claim to Liberty. Instead of a country filled with free people, who assert their dignity through Liberty, we have become subjected to the will of a government that sets its own parameters of its reach and authority through the arbitrary interpretation and application of law. Principles are no longer considered inviolate, but are subject to the political whims of the day, whether those whims are Liberal, Conservative, Neo-Conservative or any other political ideology. Today we happen to be witness to the “living Constitution” as the Neo-Conservatives view it; tomorrow we might be witness to another group and their interpretation. Therein is the danger of such an arbitrary interpretation.

When any political ideology or philosophy extends an arbitrary utility over a Constitutional principle, it does so at its own peril. I say that because, as we see with the Bush Administration, it is then easy for any group to take liberties with those principles and thus affect one or more sections of an opposing party or interest. Once the door is open to accept and approve the arbitrary interpretation and application of the Constitution, and then it becomes much easier for abuse to ensue. If the principles found within the Constitution are not foundational to both government and the People, then those principles will always be usurped, abused or denied. When the principles of the Constitution are no longer viewed as essential and therefore open to any interpretation, then they provide no protection from potential abuse by those of any political agenda.

One amazing fact is that the various political ideologies always seem to support some degree of Constitutional stretch when it follows their own particular political agenda, but when an opposing agenda stretches beyond the bounds of the Constitution there is an uproar and condemnation. It was easy for the Republicans; for instance, to condemn the Clinton Administration over its Constitutional abuses but not its own abuses now that Bush is in office. Likewise, the cry from the Democrats is equally as adamant when a Republican abuses those powers and reaches beyond the Constitution in one way or another when those breaches are contrary to their own agenda. The government seeks the ease of power and yet the Constitution was created to make it cumbersome to govern, thereby removing the potential for both consolidation of powers and the abuse of such powers. Checks and balances are extremely cumbersome, viewed as outdated and inapplicable in our day and age, is it any wonder that the view of foundational and inviolate principles is looked upon with such disdain? It is symptomatic of all centralized governments to seek power for it eases its ability to rule, a fact that history bears out to be true.

When we allow a very relative interpretation and application of Constitutional principles to prevail then not only will power seek the level of its own expression, but, in every case, the People will end up being the ones to eventually suffer the consequences of such relativity. Government bureaucrat’s prize relativity, for it removes restraints regarding the application of government statute over the principles designed to constrain such powers.

This government cannot do anything unless we cede it the power to do so, that includes the abridgement of our Rights. The Bush Administration is only following a path that was already well beaten when it came to power. Granted, it has extended its power beyond anything seen since the Wilson Administration, but never the less, it is far from being an action beyond precedent.

Political decentralization, a key structure found within the Constitution, is interwoven with the ideals of Individual Liberty. While it is the responsibility of the individual to place demands upon government for the appropriate execution of the Rights that foster such Liberty, it is not without precedent for any government, limited or not, to usurp and consolidate power to the bereft of the individual. Today we are witness to a vast number of powerful interests, both social and economic, manipulating government to the benefit of their particular agendas, all done, of course, under the carefully crafted guise of democratic freedom. People have always clamored over the promises of politics rather than the reality of politics and politicians are all too eager to oblige such inclinations of the People thus gaining their allegiance and support. The political reality of the day however, is far too disturbing to be spoken by the majority of politicians today; it is simply not palatable to the electorate.

Currently we are asked to “voluntarily” relinquish a great many of our Rights, in one degree or another, for the sake of security. It is not the first time the government has made such requests, doubtless it will not be the last, but we must remember what we do when we allow such license to government. When extra-Constitutional license is ceded to government, the government will always willingly accept for it is in the nature of government to govern more by force than by consent.

It is easy to see that the decline of Classical Liberalism in our society is mirrored by an increased power and centralization of The State as it takes advantage of the decline of citizen action and influence. The philosophy of Classical Liberalism that once prevailed in this country has been silent for far too long and thankfully it is experiencing a revival of sorts, partly out of necessity and partly out of the utter disgust with the quandary that passes as government in this country.

Until the People openly oppose all attempts to evade Constitutional Order then we will all continue to be in jeopardy from those who have shown no qualms at its usurpation at the expense of the People. Unless we oppose all efforts to abridge our Rights and Liberties by any government, political party or ideology then we will continue down the road where our Rights are totally contingent upon the winds of political expediency. If the People take those vital principles for granted or if we continue to excuse them as outdated or ineffectual for our time, even though they were specifically designed to protect all of us, then why should we be surprised when the government takes advantage of our own complacency as we readily cede such power and grant such license to those are only too willing to accept a power with far less restraint then is ordered by the Constitution.

Barr’s turned flaky on immigration.

How about Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party? Chuck helped Ron Paul out bunch earlier in the year, even holding a pastors’ conference where Ron could address their concerns.

We CANNOT give up so easily just because we have a few set backs and they are trying to create the aura that John McCain has this wrapped up. If George Washington had given up after two years of crushing defeat after defeat in the Revolutionary War, we would have never won it.

I\’m telling ALL of everyone out there that GOD is on OUR side in this fight, and no matter what the circumstances look like, we HAVE to continue fighting for what we know to be right and good and honorable in the sight of God, man and country.

Mark my words, it will be a battle at the GOP National Convention in September, but if we continue to do battle and fight for his right to have delegates at all the state conventions, and send all the already chosen delegates info on Ron Paul (the Alaska way), and then have thousands of people at the convention giving speeches outside the Convention stumping for Ron Paul…..mark my words, this WILL be a brokered convention, and at the end of the day Ron Paul will be the Republican Nominee.

My father, a dyed in the wool Democrat, has just asked me for info about Ron Paul. He said he wants to know more about him as he can\’t stand the choices we\’ve been given.

Ron Paul for President 2008!!!!!

Ron Paul for re-election 2012!!!!!
