Primary cut: Ballot certification due today
The end of the holiday weekend could also be the end of the line for some potential candidates in Missouri.
Secretary of State Robin Carnahan is due to certify the August ballot today, which has already suffered some casualties since filing began in February.
Among those who have been kicked off the primary ballot, for paper work and other reasons:
- State Rep. Juanita Head Walton, whose bid for State Senate ran into some tax problems.
- Sam Coleman, who shocked his City Hall supporters by failing to file a personal financial disclosure form, resulting in disqualification.
- Marijuana advocate Chief Wana Dubie, who apparently did not have the blessing of state Libertarians.
Former Kansas City mayor Charlie Wheeler was temporarily off the ballot for state treasurer — but then sued Carnahan, and found himself back on.
State Rep. Connie Johnson, tossed off the ballot for State Senate because she did not meet residency requirements, is hoping to pull off a similar maneuver, but, with a judge already ruling she did not live in the district, her campaign could officially end today.
