Ron Paul supporters have their day in court, er, armory
Here’s the scene: About 45 Ron Paul supporters, most of them from Republican hotbeds Greene County or St. Charles, are gathering in the gymnasium of the Jefferson City armory awaiting their fate as challenged delegates to the Republican state convention.
There’s an 80-year-old man who made the jaunt on a Monday at 10 a.m. There is Curtis Abbott, one of the Greene County ringleaders. There’s a group holding a prayer circle as the first delegate is led upstairs.
And over on the floor playing with his 3-and-a-half-year-old son Andy is Brent Stafford of St. Charles. Stafford was chairman of the St. Charles County Conference, which elected 137 delegates to the state convention, nearly all of them supporters of the failed presidential candidate, Paul.
Stafford and others believe the state party is ignoring it’s “open door” platform by challenging delegates without a reason. All of the challenged delegates in the Armory received a letter from Richard C. Peerson, the chairman of the Republican convention credentials committee. The letter did not state any reasons for the challenge.
“At least they’re giving us the illusion of due process,” Stafford said. He was referring to the 2nd Congressional District convention in which all the St. Charles delegates were unceremoniously tossed out.
The first to be called before the credentials committee today was Barry Pulley of St. Peters. Pully tried to bring Peggy Young with him. Young is an expert in parliamentary procedure who agreed to represent the challenged delegates in their secret meetings, but she was not allowed to join Pulley.
“Effectively, they were saying I was there because the entire group (of Paul delegates) was challenged,” Pulley said. He stated his case and the meeting ended. He said he still plans to attend the state convention.
Republican Party Executive Director Jared Craighead could not be reached for comment. He was in the closed-door meetings upstairs at the Armory, according to one of the Republican Party officials running the meeting.

Looks like they’ll get about the same due process as the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. Who says Republicans aren’t consistant?
“failed” “ringleader”
Wow, another smear piece of fake journalism by Tony Messenger of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
My credentials as a delegate aren’t being challenged, so I have no personal stake in this situation. But I have to say, it seems to me a pointless, or even a counterproductive effort. McCain will be the nominee whether these folks get to come to Branson or not. The only possible repercussion of seating them is that a few Republican bigwigs may not get to serve as delegates to the national convention. As somebody who HAS been a delegate to the national convention (actually, to be precise, an alternate) that would bum me out … but it wouldn’t be the end of the world. On the other hand, alienating a bunch of excited political neophytes just months before an election doesn’t strike me as such a good idea.
Hear me and hear me good.
If the Republican party does not stop these pointless attempts to harrass and disenfranchise Ron Paul Republicans, we will not just sit out the election in November, we will push our support to the Democrat.
To our way of thinking, there isn’t but 50 cents worth of difference between McCain and either Democrat anyway (to say there’s not a dime’s worth of difference would be to overstate the case) The satisfaction of making the Republican party *suffer* through four (or maybe eight?)years of either Obama or Clinton will more than make up the difference.
To put it simply - If you think we are a problem when we are _in_ your party, imagine the havoc that we will create outside of it. Imagine thousands of blog comments for Hillary. Imagine $6 million dollar money bombs for Obama.
Do not take this as an idle threat. You have been warned.
Thanks for the update. I can see why they are worried - that group in the prayer circle is clearly calling for reinforcements!
What has my long time party come to in trying to disenfranchise people who played by the rules?
Simon Jester - The very words you wrote here are precisely why the party is challenging delegates. Unfortunately, it isn’t just the Republican party that will suffer if Obama is elected, it will be the entire country.
In fact, there is quite a bit more than fifty cents worth of difference between McCain and Obama, a Senator with a more liberal voting record than the Vermont Socialist, Senator Sanders. As President, Obama would radically reshape America. We would see a surge in the scope of the federal government that would leave you longing for the Bush years, and attacks on private enterprise that would exceed even those of FDR. Taxes would increase for nearly everyone. We would see the re-implementation of federal regulation of political speech in broadcasting, which would drive conservative talk hosts off the air. And we would see broad new federal regulations on gun ownership.
Will we see conservative heaven under a McCain administration? Unlikely. But the changes that would take place under Obama are broad and sweeping. Under McCain, none of those things would happen. And we would see, at least for four years, an elimination of earmarks, which is more than President Bush ever did.
Unfortunately, politics often presents us with imperfect choices. But a foolish response to an imperfect choice is, in this case, a costly thing. You can scream like a teenager, or fight like a man. The choice is yours.
If Ron Paul is not on the ballot in November WRITE HIM IN if this is possible in your state. If you can’t do this then don’t vote for anyone. Don’t waste your vote on someone you don’t want just because they are the lesser of two eviils or you don’t think that Paul has a chance of winning.Don’t be the vote who puts someone in office that will make this country even worse than it is now. If you can become a deligate.
If you can’t vote then write in Ron Paul
I’m a registered Republican and voted for Bush in 2000/4. I am not the only one sorry that I did so. I will be voting for Ron Paul this time around, as the Republican Party seems to be neoconned to the extent that it was, and remains, a major oppressor of the old line Conservatives. We are now being offered a liberal war-hungry McCain, and with him a former Democratic V-P contender who is set upon a war with Iran, Lieberman. Do you really expect my vote?
Ron Paul supporters should vote in this election. They have a place in the process whether the repubs want them at their convention or not. Instead of lesser than two evils or not voting, how about voting for the party that Paul ran in 1988. The Libertarians will field a good candidate without the money and the desire to pander like the two ding dongs.
I was at the polls handing out literature for Republican candidates before I could go to the polls to vote for them. I was also elected to be a delegate in 2004 to the GOP 1st District and State Conventions and attended with no problems.
Then why did I get a noticed last Thursday, May 1 that I was my credentials were being challenged and that I could appear on Monday in Jeff City for a hearing?
But truely, I don’t know. I called the GOP twice, and got voicemail with no return call. I sent an email to the man who signed my challenge letter. No response.
Since I was properly elected at the township caucus on Mar. 15 and I participated in GOP District Convention on Apr. 19th, I can only assume that because I’m a Republican who supported pro-life, Constitutionalist Ron Paul, the Party isn’t interested in my participation.
Why should I take a day off of work and pay for a tank of gas to attend this hearing to defend myself against unknown charges?
I’m just heartbroken that in a time when we are facing some tough questions and it seems so much time and energy is being put into keeping grassroots Republicans who took the time to attend the caucuses out of the process?
Nick,
Everything you said above Obama would do, McCain would do. Especially the raising of taxes, attacks on private industry and attacks on free speech (especially conservative talk radio - which he hates) and you also failed to mention that McCain will bring on Universal Health Care in a bipartisan measure. Even though he’s a vertean he does not support the troops. Not once did he speak out in support of our soldiers who were accused of murder. He voted against better veterans benefits this year. Nor did he support the pardoning of the border gaurds. He a liberal and hes in the wrong party. This general election will be democratic primary.
A vote for McCain makes you a sellout in my book! Vote Republican Vote for Ron Paul.
Write in Ron Paul on the ballot? You might as well save your time and stay home. After all, if you think the election process is a sham, why lend it credibility by participating?
PS - Being an ex-Democrat isn’t always a bad thing … Zell Miller is a former Democrat, and he is more conservative than a lot of what passes for Republican these days.
As much as I would like to, it will be pointless to write-in Ron Paul. It will just be seen as a spoiled ballot and not even counted to his credit. The alternative is to vote for the Libertarian candidate. The Libertarian party has full ballot access and some very credible candidates.
There are large numbers of people hoping to persuade Ron Paul to run as a Libertarian. Most of the L candidates have been waiting quietly in the wings, waiting to see how Ron Paul’s campaign would fare. They are now stepping up to the plate.
Vote Bob Barr if Ron Paul isn’t a choice. He thinks the same as Paul.
Watch ‘ Money Masters’. Very educational.
This is nonsense , every 4 years the people are told to get out and participate in our electoral process . So we do and this is what we get . I also am one of the challenged delegates .
We got out our votes and voices to support , of all things , The sinking ship Called the Republican Party . The masses have already went out and voted in the primaries and are jumping ship to the democrats , for good reason . But that is because the flocks of sheep have been herded that way by the liars in Washington .
Because why ? ? ? Because if you vote for McCain you are voting for 4 more years of this Bush shit .;…. Leaving you with only one “sensible” option to vote democrat to supposedly stop this mayhem .
My Friends … Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin and there is no real hope in either of them currently …. So for love of country and our fellow men … We stood up and wanted to make a difference …. And they are trying to shut us out ..
This is to any non-believer of the evils in our government …. This is your proof here with the actions that took place today .
It’s only a matter of time before the house of cards comes tumbling down and the men behind the curtain are revealed .
To those RP supporters who are ready to quit the Republican party in disgust, I would recommend that you stick around instead. Ronald Reagan got the same treatment from the country-club Republicans, and he didn’t get the nomination the first time he ran, either. The Republican party can be returned to the principles it’s supposed to stand for, but ONLY if you stay in the party and vote. 99% of success is showing up, and RP’s supports have been showing up in droves.

Ronulans!
HEAR ME!
Your guy lost… get it? While we in the party loved, really loved some of the points he raised, he, Ron Paul is a 24ct flake. Continuing to back this looser is crazy on your part, and will change NOTHING!
Want to change the world!?! Fine, great wonderful… find some local guy (or girl) running for the state house, county council, school board, whatever… someone that thinks as you do, and put all this passion and time and effort into their campaign. Build the party and the government in the image you want to see.
Or you can sit here and whine… it’s up to you
Nick Kasoff - It is hardly reasonable to expect loyalty from people you treat so shoddily. I doubt many Ron Paul Republicans will vote for Obama but they may well vote for the Constitution Party’s candidate, Chuck Baldwin, whoever the Libertarian party nominates, or just stay home at least in part as a consequence of how they are being treated by the party many of them have belonged to their entire adult lives. Would a president Obama be worse than a president McCain? It is arguable. Which is more liberal? Republicans who run as conservatives but rule as liberals are becoming passe. McCain is not even pretending to be conservative. He can’t. His record won’t allow it.
I have no idea who Simon Jester is but he certainly not only speaks for himself, but is possibly trying to make Ron Paul supporters look bad. Of the hundreds of Ron Paul supporters I have met I don’t know of anyone that shares his view.
tsquare!
Hear me!
Apparently the only people who think that Ron Paul still has a chance are the GOP party apparatchiks who are breaking every rule to keep his supporters from having a place at the table. Maybe paranoia or psychotic delusions are their defining characteristics.
To tsquare, first of all, it is unfortunate that you have basically called an entire REPUBLICAN district in Texas crazy. Secondly, you won’t even put your name on your post. Are you one of the democrats that is trying to divide the republican party? We will stand unified. Before posting such things you really should find out that the person you are attacking has been elected as a Republican for many many years and the people who voted for him in his district are not crazy just because they don’t agree with you. Until all of our rights have been ceded away by our congress you still have the right to voice your opinion publicly but please stop the name calling.
Nick Kasoff, I’m a registered Republican in Colorado. I will treat the gop just like they treated Ron Paul, so if you ask me the gop is doing a great job of losing 10-30% of their own base. Let me ask you this way. If we were on the same team, then i beat you up black and blue. You think you would team up with me after i sent you to the hospital? i think not. the gop has pretty much burnt there bridges with 1/4 of their base.
I assume the gop is planning on bringing iraqi nationals and illegals to win the general election. The GOP IS DEAD IN THE WATER with mccain and the actions of the gop to their own republicans. Thegop is throwing the election. They ran 10 candidates to marginalize Ron Paul’s Conservative Message. The gop will reap what they sow. Mccain has lost this election before it began. The gop will deserve exactly what they get.
Of course i wonder if they will waterboard me before the convention. I’m Republican, I’m not sure exactly what the gop is anymore. Registered Republican For Ron Paul and Conservative Value’s AMERICANS WANT RON PAUL ,the sheeple think they want hillary/obama/mccain(one in the same big intrusive government politicians) a majority of people i know want Ron Paul to run, they just hate to hear that dirty word”republican” I predict landslide loses across the board for republicans, you can thank the bushes and gop mccain drones for this one.. aka (NEO-CONS) Our only hope now is Ron Paul 2008 ,nothing will change with the republicrats
tssquare:
I’m not whining. I’m defecting. I cast my vote for Ron Paul in the primaries and will be voting for the Libertarian candidate in November. Simple.
T-Square - Hear me
You Wrote:

Again, I hate to bring logic and reason to counter your Polit Bureau induced rants, but…
First, we have not lost, yet. Now, I am a realist and I know the chances are incredibly low to nill. However - our goal is to make Conservatives heard once again, because we are morally, ethically and patriotically superior to neocons such as you.
Second, you could not have “really loved” some of the points he raised - because then you would be supporting him. Be honest, you found some of his ideas made sense (not “really loved”), but you didn’t want to piss off Sean Hannity or act counter to “The Party” because you are weak and unprincipled.
Third, …a Flake?…I guess when the Polit Bureau tells you that the Constitution is too old and we can just forget about it, you, of course, tuck in your corsett and bow. If wanting the Constitution to be the rule of law and followed until we all agree it should be changed, and wanting a small central government that doesn’t control every aspect of my life makes me a flake? - Then I am a full box of Wheaties!
Fourth, backing this “looser” will accomplish nothing? You have been reading articles about our struggle, haven’t you? I’d say we are starting to at least get some attention. We are going to have national delegates, make changes to state party platforms in many states, etc… And, as I’ve told my friends and family for almost a year now when they ask similarly naive statements: “It’s not the man - It’s the movement!”
Ron Paul Revolution!
Tssquare,
Umm. No you didn’t love, really love some the points Ron Paul raised. You tittered at them. That is why we don’t believe you….
So whoever gets the Libertarian nod later this month, be it Bob Barr, Mary Ruwart, Wayne Allen Root, George Phillies, Mike Jingozian, Mike Gravel, etc — he/she’ll be getting my vote.
I do wish McCain would step aside and not be a spolier.
Mr Kasof,
If thats the reason the GOP is locking the doors on Ron Paul supporters they have a bigger problem than they realize. They are throwing out the baby with the bathwater.
Contrary to what GOP leaders and the media would have us think, alot of Ron Paul supporters are longtime Republicans with long family histories in the GOP, such as myself. My families Republican roots date back more than a century. I was thrilled when I discovered there were thousands of young and enthusiastic people excited about a Republican presidential candidate. I admit I myself was less than enthused by the field, as were alot of Republicans I associate with. Personally I had been shopping around for a new affiliation since 2004, but was holding out hope the GOP would once and for all come to their senses about liberal Republicans, what younger generations call “compassionate conservatives”, or “neo-cons”. I am by no means a “hijacker” or “infiltrator” and I resent being reffered to as such.
I was getting comfortable with the idea that the White House was a lost cause for Republicans in 2008. I figured after what the Irving Kristol wing of the party has done to this country in just the last 8 years, and the feedback I was getting from fellow Republicans, we could’nt pay people to vote Republican in 2008, let alone donate money or volunteer. Then I discovered there were all these young energetic people coming out of the woodwork to fight for a Republican candidate, and raising all kinds of money. It was like a prayer had been answered. Though I can remember as a child helping my grandfather work the Ike campaign, as an adult I’ve worked every Republican campaign since Goldwater. I have never before seen passionate enthuiasm for a Republican candidate like I’ve seen this year for Ron Paul.
Unlike past years when the liberal Republicans outmanuevered us Goldwater-Reagan Republicans they did just that, “outmanuevered” us by the book, this time they are breaking the rules to shut people out. In doing so they are throwing out a lot of longtime Republicans like me. Back in the day, they shut out Goldwater and Reagan (1976) by circling wagons of support around their candidate and won within the rules. We did’nt lock the door. Those were the good old days, when state conventions were exciting and at times heated floor strategy and arguments. We encouraged participation, we gave a little here we got a little there, we won some we lost some, they got this we got that, and through that process we could close ranks behind the nominee.
This time is different.
This time we locked the doors and cannabalized a fellow Republican, breaking the rules and marginalizing him in the media. Had we not done that, right now we’d be enjoying the same amount of media attention Obama and Clinton are getting, we’d have a whole bunch of new active Republicans in the party, we’d be looking forward to very exciting conventions and a very exciting year in politics, and we’d have a much better chance at uniting this party behind the eventual nominee.
Like it or not our nominee is going to need every vote and every dollar he can muster, to win in November. We locked out and marginalized an entire wing of the party that had youthful enthusiasm and incredible fundraising skills. We need that enthusiasm to energize this party, and to compete against Obama or Clinton supporters on university campuses and such, not to mention the future of our party. I certainly would not want to reward the GOP for disenfranshising myself and others, by giving them my vote in November. I’m not saying I’d vote Democrat, but I certainly would not vote Republican. Who would? If you were a Ron Paul supporter would you vote for the Republican after what the GOP so obvuiously did to them in front of the entire country?
To Nick Kasoff -
You write that McCain will eliminate 4 years of earmarks……….what is that, about .00045% of our debt? Oh, he’s real change for America. Who is actually wanting to deal with our national debt? None of them are except Dr. Paul. The Democrats will most likely increase taxes yes plus continue with our overseas foreign policy. And McCain wants to continue war too; indefinitely. All of the above is going to bankrupt this nation…….and soon. Look at the dollar’s value for goodness sake. We have one candidate who has sound concrete plans to fix the economy among many other things. For anyone interested in what he stands for, read his new best-selling book “The Revolution: A Manifesto”. Educate yourselves before you vote!
The good news is that the Republican Party of Missouri DOES have time to come to its senses. Today’s gathering was just to inform the credentials committee. The credentials committee at least technically doesn’t decide today, but instead reports their recommendations at the state convention at the end of May. They could decide that all of these challenges are bunk, and allow everyone to participate. The assembly could also choose not to accept an unfair recommendation. Either should happen, because the spirit of challenges is certainly not to throw entire groups of people out. However, their bs has probably served its purpose - demoralizing people who might otherwise have been there.
People came into this movement because they believed in a man who took Republican Party principles to heart - small government, lower taxes, individual freedom. With the one exception of his Libertarian presidential run, the man has been a Republican since before Ronald Reagan was President.
It’s just very disheartening to think that this party and political outlook that gives us hope everyday via talk radio that there is some common sense left in this country is showing none of it, and instead resorting to the bullying tactics that we’re used to hearing about from Democrats. There’s purporting to be fair and decent, and there’s actually being so. The Republican Party right now is not living up to their moral high ground.
We just want freedom for goodness sakes. We don’t NEED any more government. All of these things Republicans supposedly believe in there is ONE man who always operates from them, yet somehow to have that ONE great citizen statesman as your hero makes you “not a republican” with nothing more? The state’s rules are merely that delegates be a strong and faithful republican VOTER. Let’s for once in this seemingly endless march towards global socialism just wake up and STOP being foolish and superficial, and unite for what is right! The Republican Party of Missouri names its offices after Ronald Reagan, who if he could would undoubtedly demand they stop using his name if they continue with these shenanigans.
I’ve never voted Democrat, nor will I. But this party might just be losing me forever, and I dare say I would not be alone.
Remember we had a primary election. Missouri is a take all State. Why do the Ron Paul supporters now want to change the rules after over 5 million people have voted? If you don’t want to play fair pick up your marbles and go home but quit trying to blame everyone else because Ron Paul only got 4% of the vote.
Please….I know this is a late posting on this issue, but this whole delegate challenge thing has nothing to do with conservatism, Ron Paul, Ronald Reagan, John McCain or anything else. It has everything, 100%, to do with the rules of the Feb. 5th presiedential primary in Missouri…More than a year ago, the Republican Party decided that the primary election for president in Missouri would be ‘winner take all’, meaning that whoever won the Missouri Republican Primary would win the votes of all of the 58 delegates to the GOP National convention. At that tium, no one came to the party and said this was unfar, no one came to the party and suggested that this arrangment be changed. The election took place last Feb. 5th. John McCain won the most votes in the state and was declared the winner. Per the rules, he is entitled to all 58 delegate votes from the state of Missouri. These were the rules all candidates understood and went into the election playing by.
Now, for whatever reason, the Ron Paul supporters decide that they do not like John McCain or his positions, nor do they like the wineer takes all aspect of the primary and they decided that they will either try to change the rules at the state convention to allow Ron Paul to get his 4.5% (the % he won in Missouri) of the 58 delegates (2 delegates) or they want to create ‘chaos’ as his website suggested at the convention to tell people they should change their votes for Ron Paul.
This is all about changing the rules of the game after the game has been over for several months and the results have been decided and published. I just wish those Ron Paul folks who are behind this would be honest and tell everyone that its not about principles, its not about fairnes,, but its all about being unable to accept the results of the election and whining about changing the rules after the game has been played.
Let’s see now, Ron Paul got about 5% of the vote in the Presidential “primary” in the State of Missouri. Now those who LOST want to be represented equally with those who received 6 times as many votes. We hear of threats of disruption at the convention, we read of complaints that the loosing teams are not treated fairly that they are not getting an equal voice with those who “won”, we read the whining by Ruth that she received a letter about her election to represent a township (she does not live in) going to the convention, whine, whine, whine!
We’ve read in the paper about delegates to the 2nd Congressional District complaining that they were not allowed to partake in their caucus, them the same people turn out to be listed as delegates to the Constitution Party Convention in KC. True and Faithful Republicans? More like 5th columnists!
The Voters of Missouri spoke, Ron Paul Lost, the Republican Party of Missouri is not responsible for the the results of the election.
Ron Paul people, join up with the GOP, many of us believe in much of what Ron Paul has stated.
We support much of what he has voted for and against in Congress. Work and change what is wrong in the state and National GOP system. But the disruption of the conventions will look like Chicago in ‘68 and will gain your group nothing!
The United States has become so
I, I, Me Me, My
and fearful…
that when comes a time
that young people read
and learn about Civics,
the entrenched become ingrates.
I guess only the experienced
have a place in The Process
God Save America
I think Ron Paul supporters knew all along, how the vote would go. If these reporters had carried his efforts then, with the frequency we witness now, who knows what would have happened. Ron Paul was missing from the pie chart, (a 23% unaccounted for slice) right before the election.
Now, if the caucus had been before the Primary, would a rules change seem out of place? I mean, this IS the place to do it, right? So, if I interpret the professed Old Guard correctly, all rules changes will always be denied, because they will always occur after the ballot in question.
Maybe we should caucus first, and then go hunting. (without Cheney, of course…)
RE: #31 Fed up
Mika Schrimpf, Director of Grassroots Development for the State GOP, wrote in an email: “State delegates can be from ANY township or district so long as they are registered voters for St. Louis Co.”
I was elected to be a delegate to the state convention from a township in St. Louis Co. and I live in St. Louis Co. Why did you purposely try to imply I was breaking the rules?
Moreover, if I was not properly elected, why didn’t the 1st Congressional District chairman challenge my credentials at the District Convention on Apr. 19th?
Please check your facts before you accuse someone of breaking the rules. Check with Mika or read the MO Republican Call to Convention.
Moreover, the “rules” for the conventions confirmed by those elected to the convention according to Roberts Rules of Order and the Call. Thus, it is the delegates at state convention who vote on and decide the rules. It is legitimate to change the rules at the state convention; it happens every convention–state and national. Case in point: the MO delegates at some point were not “bound” (as in ‘96) and now they are “bound.”
When did that change occur? And who approved that change?
Since the media is bias and able to sway the masses, is it really in the best interest of Republicans to “bind” all delegates to the winner of the primary? I think this is a legitimate discussion for Republicans to have about unintended consequences of Party rules, even if it’s limited to discussing changes for 2012.
Thanks for the article, even articles with most truths in them are better than those with no truths.
Alright, So they are being challenged, don’t we have their published rule book, if we can’t win by trying to compromise with them. Then we fight back, make it come out to the convention who is the more conservative group. (who knows the rules?)
who do you think would win that debate, the mccain, huckabee, romney delegates?
or RP’s delegates?
What would be the issues to stand on?
Mccain=war
Huckabee + romney = mccain supporters (holding on to delegates just in case rp has a chance, cause they still want to win.)
Ron Paul = RonPaullibrary.org.
Jane said, [ Nick Kasoff writes ] ” that McCain will eliminate 4 years of earmarks……….what is that, about .00045% of our debt? ”
Jane, earmarks are a red herring that Nick Kasoff and a few others are using to distract voters from the goal of eliminating budget deficits. I worked in Army budget in the Pentagon, so I learned many of the budget tricks.
By the time earmarks come around, the money is already budgeted and it will be spent. In other words, the money will be spent by someone and earmarks are a way to take some of the money (money confiscated by the IRS from working people) and send it to the local districts. Having no earmarks will save exactly $0. Eliminating earmarks means other people in the gov’t will spend it - typically unelected career civil servants.
In 2007, earmarks were $19 billion. If we wanted to save $19 billion, we could easily do so by getting troops out of South Korea for a year … or getting troops out of Iraq for six weeks.
Elimination of earmarks saves nothing, therefore it has nothing to do with being fiscally conservative. McCain and Nick Kasoff use earmarks as a red herring argument to distract true conservatives from focusing on the real budget issue of reducing spending.
Instead of blathering on about whether the supporters of Ron Paul are “loyal” Republicans, I have a challenge for you McCainites.
Try reading “The Revolution: A Manifesto” by Ron Paul and decide what you think about the man’s policies and political wisdom.
Don’t take our word for it, and for heaven’s sake don’t take the condensed and predigested versions of his beliefs that have been force fed to the American public by the mainstream media.
Who knows, you might just come to understand why so many people are so enthusiastic about his campaign and his message.
Come on, it won’t bite, I promise you.
People are being treated unfairly, this is a fact. The entire delegation from the St. Charles Caucus was challenged. The delegates from St. Charles were not allowed to make any statements in their defense at the 2nd Congressional Convention in Kirkwood or participate in any way. Then we are asked to drive all the way to Jefferson City to defend ourselves.
The credentials committee is made up of one member from each congressional district. The man on the Credentials Committee from the 2nd Congressional District is the man who filed the challenge against all of the St. Charles delegates. How can this be a fair and unbiased process?
Not one challenged person has ever seen the written challenges. There must be written challenge with supporting evidence submitted by a deadline. How can anyone know if any of this is was done? Why would they withhold the information from the challenged delegates if there was not something to hide?
Nick KastMeOff
As a Ron Paul supporter, I find your assessment of the diffences between Obama and McCain to be without merit. McCain is the worst possible outcome for America. He is an international adventurist that lives in the Teddy Roosevelt world view of attack first, talk never. America is on the verge of economic and credibility collapse. McCain get’s us there on a speeding bullet. Obama will be constrained by the economic mess that he inherits from Mr. Bush and Cheney and then again by his ability to see the consequences of unbalanced budgets and military hedgemony.
America is in a constitutional death spiral brought on by the neocon fear machine and a spineless congress and an utter lack of awareness by the American people of their responsibility and power to exert control over a two party system that gives us a choice between Hillary “Annihilate Iran” Clinton and John “Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Iran” McCain.
If the GOP will not accept Ron Paul, the heir of Goldwater, Taft & to a lesser extent Reagen. Then, Obama is the clear choice for those who wish to slow the Empire in order to save our Republic.
Hey, if it’s no big deal and McCain will be the nominee, why the inquisition? For all that goes, why bother even sending delegates to the National Convention? Why have the national convention at all?
Well it looks to me that if you can’t win fairly, CHEAT!!
Any Paul delegate called in for credential checking should be allowed to appear with legal representation.
Lets see how long this will go on when attorneys forcing legal transparency start to appear.
You are allowed legal representation in this country, no matter what the case.
And come to think of it All people are considered innocent and those making accusations must make prove them otherwise. Let’s see how much money the Republican credentials committee is willing to burn up on this witch hunt of theirs.
Fellow Paul supporters, It’s time to introduce the Republican Ringleaders to the legal system.
Dr Dave
Fed-up,
The only people disrupting the conventions are the GOP apparatchiks who break their own organization’s rules to guarantee a result they want pre-ordained. If there is a legitimate challenge to be made to a delegate make it and back it up. Don’t do blanket and blank challenges and deny the challenged the right to defend themselves and stop accusing good people of being dishonorable. Ron Paul supporters have the right to participate, they have the right to submit resolutions, they have the right to run to be delegates. They have the right to do anything the rules allow as long as they follow the rules. They would ask that the Republican party stop acting like cheating scum and follow their own rules. If the Republican party cannot do that, they have no right to act self-righteous about Paul supporters hoping to debate the way that delegates are bound.
“Simon Jester - Will we see conservative heaven under a McCain administration? Unlikely. But the changes that would take place under Obama are broad and sweeping. Under McCain, none of those things would happen. And we would see, at least for four years, an elimination of earmarks, which is more than President Bush ever did.”
See, that’s just it. Call me crazy, but I really don’t think any of the three candidates will actually do ANYTHING different. It’s all rhetoric. They take their marching orders from somewhere else. They all believe in this globalist agenda. Next, we have the League of Democracies. What do you have to do to be able to vote for a legit candidate, who actually wants to be a President and not an emperor? I’m sorry, but I don’t believe McCain would actually do half of what he says he would. On top of that, I think you would have to be pretty naive to trust McCain as a conservative given his political history.
Seriously, didn’t Bush just increase the size of the Fed more than any other President in history? Didn’t he do… Well… Basically nothing that he said he would? Well, other than give us a slight tax break… That he made up for in hidden taxes elsewhere. Didn’t he promise us no nation building? Can we please have some “real” conservatism in the Republican party soon?
“What’s the purpose of having the Convention if the nominee is already decided”, said Ron Paul. Why are “good” Republicans those who support the supposed nominee? What’s the purpose of electing delegates and pretending to have some kind of democratic process if all is decided?! Just let the democratic process take it’s natural course. This type of “fixing” and “tweaking” of delegate results by party officials is so undemocratic, I’m ashamed to be called a Republican. Even if McCain gets the majority of votes at the convention, I’m hoping there are enough Ron Paul delegates to vote in more democratic resolutions that will bring the Republican Party back to it’s old principles again.
These Old Guard power grabbers need to stop their games and move on down the road. They have ruined our Party and have stained our good name. We were once great under Goldwater & Reagan.
Our Party has deserted us. Just yesterday, we lost 2 more conservatives from a 7th-generation Republican family.
I’ve never before been so embarassed to call myself a Republican after what has happened to these people.
I can’t believe the crap that is being spread here. You can hide behind life, liberty and justice for all, but how can you justify changing tthe rules on an election after over 5 million people have voted. Ask the Ron Paul supporters (just over 4% of the Missouri vote) if they would like to change the rules?
“Hide behind life, liberty and justice”? Not even close. Try ….. We wear it as our armband! Besides state party rules can be changed, they were changed in past state conventions! I didnt’ hear anyone complaining too much then.
