St. Louis leader will bike to work (updated)
Lewis Reed, president of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen, announced today that he will bike to work each day. He cites the high price of gas and a desire cut down on his “carbon footprint,” according to a spokesman. He’s even challenging the other members of the board to join him in the bike lane.
UPDATE: Reed’s ride from his Compton Heights home to City Hall takes him 15 minutes or less, his aide Rory Roundtree. Reed owns a couple bikes but uses his Raleigh M45 for the daily commute. Reed is a longtime bike enthusiast who founded Bike St. Louis. He’s back to regular riding after taking a couple years off, Roundtree says.
No word yet on whether Reed will stick to his plans if the recent deluge of spring rain continues….

Political editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Will his bodyguards be riding on the handlebars?
Now if his example can convince some of the other pols downtown to do the same. I can think of a few who would benefit greatly.
Whoopie! Now get another 200,000 people to do the same and maybe it will make a difference !
A good example for St. Louis, Lewis. But be careful! There a lot of crazy drivers on city streets and we can’t afford to lose you.
Bill H is not Bill Hannegan. I always use my full name.
it’s not Bill Haas, either; I always use Bill Hannegan, too.
and on another note, presume there’s a shower in city hall; always thought that was an issue we people who bike, especially during warm weather; sorry for thinking of practicalities; but when I was biking, I usually needed a shower, and bandages, and casts, etc.
the way my mayoral races went, there obviously are a lot of things about city hall I’ll probably never know about;
I’ll know about the congressional showers first week in January tho; that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
