Storch courts supporters in enemy territory
Jake Wagman
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

As the campaign chief for State House Democrats, Rep. Rachel Storch has spent the last several months recruiting candidates in vulnerable Republican districts.

Then she got an opponent of her own — and got to work.

Storch was feted Tuesday night at a fundraiser that featured Party Chairman John Temporiti — who apparently is making a rare endorsement in the primary contest.

Other guests included Attorney General candidate Margaret Donnelly, Lieutenant Governor hopeful Sam Page, Alderman Lyda Krewson, architect Andy Trivers, Enterprise Rent-A-Car executive Ray Wagner, and Pasta House topper Kim Tucci, who provided the food.

Storch, whose district includes Dogtown and the Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood, is facing a challenge from Mike Roberts Jr., the 29-year-old son of former alderman and millionaire developer Mike Roberts.

The fundraiser for Storch this week was hosted by Annette Mandel, the former mayor of Creve Coeur, and her husband, attorney Alan Mandel.

And even if Mike Jr. didn’t realize that the head of the state party is endorsing his opponent, it would have been tough for him to miss the fundraiser altogether — the Mandels live on Lindell Boulevard across from Forest Park, just a few doors from Roberts’ own home.
