A-B news; Politicians get a word in
We learned the news yesterday that Anheuser-Busch would fight the proposed takeover from Belgian Brewing giant InBev. As the news broke, I was sent out to gather reaction from the people.
Among the folks responding were Ed Martin, Gov. Matt Blunt’s former chief of staff, who is one of the folks behind SaveAB.com, and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, who released a statement on his blog.
U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan also released a statement that didn’t make the printed story:
I said from the beginning, and continue to believe they are trying to buy this iconic American company on the cheap, utilizing strong foreign buying power. Besides underestimating AB’s value I believe they have also underestimated the company’s determination to protect itself, and rightly so.
If anyone else has a statement, shoot it my way: ajadhav@post-dispatch.com.

This is really a fight that STL MUST win.
A merger would never work just like the failure of the Daimler-Chrysler marriage. Daimler divested Chrysler for half of what they paid–They just used the employees as second tier for their lay-off insurance against the lay-off policies of Europe. Im-Bev wants to steal A-B’s secrets on low-cost production–then will liquidate or divest after they plunder the rest of the assets. We should not be raped by the people we helped to save in WW II. A marriage with Carona makes better sense.
You mean to tell me Ed Martin isn’t in jail yet???? How much money have we spent on his lawyer bills for the Eckersly flap?
I heard it was like $30 Grand.
Lock this bum up!!!
> We should not be raped by the people we helped to save in WW II.
I hereby nominate this for the “stupid comment of the day” award. Y’all should have one of those. Seriously.
Nick obviously doesnt work for AB,…and has never been raped by a WWII vet…obviously…
