Another Schlafly makes the national news
After the hullabaloo surrounding Phyllis Schlafly’s honorary degree at Washington University, another Schlafly made the national news this weekend.
Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood — one of two restaurants run by the local beer makers — was featured in the Sunday New York Times.
Bottleworks, the story tells us, is the backdrop for the monthly meetings of the Journey, a “megachurch of mostly younger evangelicals,” that has locations in Tower Grove, West County and Clayton.
Times religion scribe Neela Banerjee says the Journey represents an emergence of young Christian groups who are putting theology ahead of politics, embracing scripture but eschewing the stances on contentious issues — abortion, for instance — that many other evangelicals embrace.
The movement, according to the Times, has received criticism from traditionalists in Missouri and elsewhere, who believe it puts young folks on a “path to sin.”
In other words, don’t expect to see Phyllis Schlafly at a Journey service anytime soon.
And, in case you’re wondering, the conservative doyenne is brewer Tom Schlafly’s aunt, but is not involved in the family business.

I think the Journey should also have their meetings at One Busch Place…it will take a whole lot of praying to keep AB from getting acquired by InBev.
