Aldermen passed a resolution this morning remembering Lee Nixon — known around St. Louis as the “Rose Man.”
Nixon was felled by a hail of early-morning gunshots while peddling his trademark long-stems at a club in Washington Park. Nixon was a fixture on the local nightlife scene, selling flowers, teddy bears and ballons to the disco set.
“I didn’t know his name,” Alderman Bennice Jones King said at today’s meeting. “I refered to him as the Rose Man, because that’s exactly what he was — the Rose Man, spreading joy and happiness.”
