Harris’ favorite thing? Attacking Koster’s GOP past
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
You might have noticed by the paid ads on this site that Jeff Harris, vying for the Democratic nomination for attorney general, is targeting primary rival Chris Koster, who last year shed his Republican affiliation and jumped across the aisle.
Today, Harris released a music video, challenging Koster’s party loyalty with the help of some amateur von Trapps in downtown Columbia.
Be warned: This crew of crooners won’t be trying out for the Mizzou choir anytime soon.

Seems like a lot of people talk about how good a guy Harris is, but after the 5th or 6th attack ad/clip/quote I see each day, I find it harder to believe.
Since I don’t know that much about him, I guess I can’t really say much, but in my opinion he’d be much better off talking about issues instead of running this smear nonsense. Just seems strange to me.
Pretty funny video. Nothing like hitting them with a laugh.
JJ, Harris has been saying a lot about himself and what he’s going to do. I think the problem is that no matter how much voters and reporters fuss about it, they mostly only pay attention when candidates criticize each other instead of when they talk about what they’re going to do.
That said, this blog did have Harris’ endorsement from Betty and Warren Hearnes last week. And to be honest, I’ve heard a lot more from Harris than either of the other two candidates combined. Maybe he just wants it more. He certainly seems to be working harder.
Can’t say as I blame Harris. If I had a lackluster record like his I would spend time beating up on the guy I think I need to beat.
It will be great entertainment to see Margaret Donnelly beat Harris and Koster. It might even be more entertainment to see Harris throw his usually childish tantrums when he comes in last. Well, OK he might beat that other lady who is running but maybe not.
That has to be the most stupid, pathetic political advertisement I’ve ever seen. How embarrassing.
I just hope voters voting in the Democratic Primary on Aug. 5 can’t be bought or fooled. This Primary will be a real test. Do Democrats have such short memories that they will forget that Koster is really a Republican? Or will Democrats remember all the horrific Republican legislation that Koster pushed through? Don’t be fooled. The two real Democrats in this race are Rep. Margaret Donnelly and Rep. Jeff Harris.
Chris Koster is not a Democrat. Jeff Harris is justified in pointing this out, however often he can or will.
I have been incredulous at the amount of blog ads Jeff Harris has been buying against Chris Koster. Doesn’t he have anything to say about himself?
I hope he continues to waste his money talking about his opponent.
At least Chris Koster has the decency to talk about his own ideas and experience for the office, while Jeff blows a bunch of wind about a fact that everybody already knows.
Chris Koster used to be a Republican. Duh.
He’s become a Democrat.
Jeff Harris is ticked off that he has some strong competition now.
Jeff’s letting everybody know.
Yawn.
He’s just making my days a little more interesting as I try to estimate how much money he’s spending on blog ads. He hasn’t told me anything new.
Come on, this is a funny ad.
It could have just been the same boring: “Republicans hate the poor, the old, and the sick. Koster was a Republican, therefore he hates the old, poor, and the sick.” Rinse, and repeat.
At least Harris makes me laugh. And the ad involves Missourians. +1 to Harris for the ad.
This is a great ad. Its right on point. True, Harris spends a lot of time talking about Koster’s past, but isn’t that because politicians run on their past. Unfortunately for Koster, his past is one standing with the Republican party.
Justin and JJ, if you want issues, check out the issue page on Harris’ website (http://www.electjeffharris.com/issues/). Its full of his ideas for what he’ll do in office from dealing with CAFOS and safety to open government and health care. Harris has created more proposals for the AG’s office than any other candidate.
It’s not far to attack Harris because you don’t see his issues in the media (which, by the way, where have you seen issues proposed by Donnelly and Koster). Simply because you don’t see these proposals in the papers doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Campaigns don’t choose what the media covers. Often issue proposals don’t get covered.
To say that Jeff has not been talking about issue is not true. Go to this link and you see that Jeff has gotten positive feedback from throughout the state including positive editorials in Springfield, Joplin, and Hannibal. http://www.electjeffharris.com/news/newsclips.php A few weeks ago I decided to support Jeff partially because he is the candidate that has given the most thought to what he will do as attorney general. Here is what I said in an earlier post:
One of the tools I used to evaluate who would make the best attorney general is to look at the candidates websites and research there records. I also talked extensively to two of the candidates and a core supporter of the other. The only thing that Koster really talks about is that the attorney general is some sort of super prosecutor. His website has not been updated since October, 2007 and is sort of sloppy. Margaret has three good proposals. One concerning unsafe toys, another on financial explotation of the elderly and another on tracking down fugitives. She has updated her website once in the last month. Jeff has a proposal to create a special unit in the AG’s office to specialize in the sunshine, another proposal to strengthen the sunshine law, a proposal on CAFO’s, on subprime mortgages, on expanding the no call list, on shaken babies, on unwanted e-mails or spam, on sex offenders and on campaign finance. He has updated his website at least ten times in the last month. Koster filed nine bills this year about half on which have to do with the ag’s office. Donnelly filed six. Jeff has seventeen. All of them in some way are related to the attorney general’s. Looking at these proposals it became clear to me that Jeff has a comprehensive vision for the office. Far more that the other candidates. Also, because he is the only candidate to work in the office, he has obviously gave some thought to what he will do when he is elected.
Jeff is strong in every area of the state and with every democratic interest group. If he isn’t the strongest candidate he is always second. Both of the other candidates have significants weaknesses that will prevent them from winning a democratic primary and a general election.
