UPDATED AGAIN: Harris gets creative with Koster attack
Daniel Nava, a spokesman for Margaret Donnelly offered this little nugget in an e-mail to me moments ago:
“If the truth hurts, I guess Chris can try and hide behind copyright law. I suggest we elevate the conversation to an adult level. I hope Chris and Jeff will join Margaret and talk about what really matters: protecting Missouri families.”
Second add as of 3:29 p.m.
Danny Kanner, spokesman for Chris Koster, just dropped me a response from to Harris like Web song-and-dance number:
“Poor Jeff Harris. He just doesn’t seem to get it. While he’s off making little cartoons, Chris Koster is talking to voters about how he’s the only Attorney General candidate with real law enforcement experience.
Of course, when the recording industry gets through with Harris’s rip-off of Ringo Starr and the Beatles, he may learn something yet about the legal process. Copyright law is as good a place to start as any.”
Original post, of 1:30 p.m.
You’ve got to hand it to would-be attorney general Jeff Harris’ web team. This latest Web short contains some quality production value regardless of whether you agree with any of the assertions.
It’s reminiscent of the www.jibjab.com team which became famous for political animated cartoons in 2004, including “This Land” featuring George W. Bush in a tank and John Kerry getting Botox.
I’ll post any response from Chris Koster’s people or Margaret Donnelly’s folks, should they wish to wade into this one.
Along with the post, Harris sent out a little background on the criticisms, alleging that:
- Chris Koster appeared on the campaign trail for George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. Even though he claims to be a Democrat, Koster’s campaign website features a now doctored photo of Koster speaking at a Bush-Cheney rally.
- Chris Koster appeared in a television ad supporting conservative John Ashcroft during Ashcroft’s brutal Senate campaign against Governor Mel Carnahan, a Democratic icon.
- As a top Republican leader in the Missouri Senate, Koster supported and helped push through numerous items in Matt Blunt’s agenda, including Blunt’s immoral health care cuts and the unconstitutional photo ID bill which would have blocked seniors and minority voters from casting ballots in 2006.

Wow. Simply wow. That’s hysterical. Koster’s gotta be fuming.
He’s toast.
Brilliant!
Honestly, what is the point of this? I guess it’s a little funny. A LITTLE. I am getting sick of the macho negativity coming from the Harris campaign. I really hope Donnelly pulls through this election.
It is kinda funny but it left out a couple of things like the fact that Koster has a ton more experience as Harris. The video failed to mention that Koster was elected multiple times in an extremely Democratic district. The video missed the fact that Koster served a County Prosecutor for over 10 years before being elected to the State Senate. Oh, yeah, it also forgot to mention all the groups that are endorsing Koster over Harris, remember, Labor, Fire Fighters, Police, Bob Mc Culloch etc. Being as Harris has not raised enough money to run television commercials maybe he can put some of these facts in his next YouTube video. But it was cute.
Are you kidding guys? The video is absolutely hilarious! I’d even go as far as to say it’s the funniest political parody of the year so far!
Jack - you failed to mention Koster was elected multiple times AS A REPUBLICAN! Go to jail like Bill Webster, do not pass go, do not collect $200 from Rex Sinquefield.
Not near as funny as the original Bush and Kerry. Cheep imitation!
Seriously? Does Harris have nothing better to say or do? This is incredibly immature and I would be embarrased as a Missourian to see him get elected. It is getting old! It drives me nuts when campaigns only trash the opponents…can’t they promote themselves? I realize this is politics, but enough already Harris!
sadly it won’t be enough until Koster is obliterated, which may be fairly soon from everything I’m seeing.
Why hasn’t Donnelly chimed in here? She’s like a silent candidate sitting and waiting, making Harris do the attacks that you know she is pleased with and probably whole-heartedly supports.
I especially like the line about giving Matt Blunt his love…its so funny because theres NO way this could possibly be a double entendre…but seriously, Koster seems better qualified for the job despite his questionable party flip-flopping
CurtZ,
If Koster was behind, Harris would not be taking the cheap shots. Harris is grasping at straws. Harris is trying anything he can to get people to notice him. Unfortunately for him, he is a better comedian then he is candiate for AG.
Koster should probably thanks Harris for all the free advertisement. Maybe even Koster could loan a couple bucks to Harris’ campaign to get a real ad?
Jack: If Koster was such a clear leader in this race, then why would he have you spend so much time on the blogs trying defending him? Harris is taking votes away from Koster. It’s as simple as that. Folks find out about Koster’s record, and they say, you know what, maybe I’ll support the Democrat instead.
This video has to be painful for you, Jack, because you know it’s true. So I’ll tell you what, since Koster won’t defend his campaigning for Ashcroft, Bush and Blunt, why don’t you take a shot at it? Would you care to tell us why Democrats should support someone who picked Ashcroft over Mel Carnahan?
I heard that Molly Williams did an internal poll and it had Harris up by 10 points among likely voters, Donnelly was running strongest among women and Koster was running strongest among Republicans pretending for the sake of the poll to be Democrats.
Shecky,
Is Bob McCullough a Democrat? Is Jimmy Hoffa a democrat? Are St. Louis, Kansas City, and MHP cops democrats? YES, OF COURSE THEY ARE DEMOCRATS!!Than why did they all support Koster? BECAUSE YOU’RE DEAD WRONG ABOUT KOSTER, THAT’S WHY! Koster’s a democrat, supported by democrats, and he’s gunna win the nomination of the democrats. Harris is a faker who should work for the Cartoon Network, not the the AG’s office. He already tried it there once and couldn’t make it work for longer than 8 months. This nonsense may be may be amusing you and your 20 or so dungeon and dragons buddies, but it’s not gunna win any elections.
Dear Political Fix staff,
The video quite humorously points out that Koster supported Ashcroft, Bush and Blunt? People like me who are going to vote in the democratic primary are entitled to know why he supported for these republicans?
That is the point that Harris is raising with this video. Why does Koster refuse to answer why he supported Ashcroft, Blunt and Bush. Instead, he has spokesperson #???? attack Harris.
While you asking questions toHil
that you missed. How come the Koster voted to kick 100,000 people off health care. Why is it that the only person Koster can get to blog for him is his brother Mark Koster for Georgia.
Very good points: Why won’t Koster answer these questions? He keeps trying to change the subject. Or rather he keeps having his ever-changing spokespeople change the subject.
But don’t Democrats deserve to know that a guy who says he’s a Democrat actually campaigned for John Ashcroft over Mel Carnahan? And why won’t Koster talk about that? Adam, did you ask Danny for an explanation? Or did you ask to talk to Koster himself? You might get an exclusive since Koster never talks to reporters.
I love it that Jeff is taking Koster to the woodshed. The race is a two person battle between Jeff and Donnelly. This helps Jeff.
Donnelly is good but where is Donnelly. She is sitting on the sidelines like she did when Jeff took on Gibbons on the phony same sex marriage issue.
Does Donnelly’s “I’m above this” statement help her at all? I don’t think so. So far during this entire campaign it is Harris who has been on the offensive. Margaret Donnelly has waited for Harris to take action on every front before she jumps in.
Harris was a leader in the House and even Donnelly’s actions show Harris is the leader in the Attorney General race!
Jack - are you really Chris Koster’s brother. If that’s true, Koster’s campaign must be more desperate for support than Harris or Donnelly could even imagine. Let’s flip around your own comment to say “Koster is trying anything he can to get people to notice him.” Anything. Everything. And it ain’t working.
The truth does not hurt. The fact that this message is 20 plus post down where it will not be read does hurt, a little.
Margaret Donnelly was a divorse lawyer for about 100 years. Acting like she has any experience which is relevant is just funny.
Jeff Harris has zero experience. His only real experience is being a Lawyer at Bryan Cave (which they never talk about, hmmmm….). Besides that, nada. If anyone mentions how little experience he has his team of bloggers talk about how much money he gave up to run for office. Who cares? Honestly, it is offensive to all those that have been doing it all along.
Koster is the only one that has spent a career working for the people of Missouri. 10 plus years as a County Prosecutor and 4 years as a State Senator. All the B.S. around Koster and his switch is just spin. Harris and Donnelly thought they had a walk in the park and Koster disrupted their plans. Neither of Harris or Donelly are the most qualified Democratic canidate.
You know what hurts? Supporting a candidate like Harris (that attacks everyone for his own benefit) or Donnelly (that has less experience then Harris)
Chris Koster may be new to the party but he brings a ton more to the ticket then either Harris or Donnelly.
Now imagine the same ad with McCain instead of Koster.
This is hilarious. It’s almost enough to make me vote for Harris … not that I’m going to be voting in the Democratic primary anyway, and not that I’d vote for him in the general … but wow, that was funny.
The real story here, though, is how these two are leaving Donnelly in the dust. Her campaign has absolutely no buzz.
Nick K
I don’t except you to vote for Jeff. You don’t expect me to vote for Gibbons although I like that him and my husband is supporting him.
You got to love how Koster or his flunkies just can’t answer why he cut an ad against Mel Carnahan or why he supported Matt Blunt.
Koster will never answer the question because he can’t because he is yellow.
But what is even more hilarious than the video is that Koster the imposter’s poster is none other than his brother Mark Koster. Yep that’s right. Mark Koster who lives in Alpharetta, Georgia. That is how pathetic Koster is. The only person that will post for Koster is his brother from Georgia.
I love the video! It’s worth the laugh regardless of who’s campaign you’re rooting for.
I noticed in some of the comments above posters refer to “Jack” as Chris Koster’s brother. I’m not sure how anyone figured that out but that should maybe be a sign Koster’s campaign is imploding. Jack is the only poster with positive things to say about Koster and they just seem to consist of “my guy is better than your guy” arguments that hold zero weight. Sorry Jack-o, whoever you are, you’re guy isn’t going to make it in this race. Better luck next time.
St Louis voter,
You ask:
< Is Bob McCullough a Democrat? Is Jimmy Hoffa a democrat? Are St. Louis, < Kansas City, and MHP cops democrats? YES, OF COURSE THEY ARE DEMOCRATS!!< Than why did they all support Koster? BECAUSE YOU’RE DEAD WRONG ABOUT
< KOSTER, THAT’S WHY! Koster’s a democrat, supported by democrats, and
< he’s gunna win the nomination of the democrats.
I don’t know, are they Democrats? I truly do not believe that voters are impressed by these particular endorsements. Just the same old, same old status quo. People really want change.
This may also explain why Bob McCullough has never been challenged as St. Louis County Prosecutor, certainly can’t be said to be a good thing. What changes the minds of people who have considered running against McCullough? Scary stuff I suppose.
The video is entertaining and educational - but not in the way Harris intends. Despite the fact that all of his friends are trying to defend him - Harris’ true personality is coming through - one that is hateful and ‘me’ focused.
In my profession I have had the opportunity to work with all three candidates. Harris is by far the worst of the pack. He is self-centered -egotistical - shallow and willing to sacrifice others for what he wants. Koster is all of these as well but even he doesn’t have it as well honed as Harris.
Donnelly on the other hand is the most sincere candidate of the three. She does what she does because she thinks it is right - not because she thinks it will further her political career as her two opponents measure every action.
Always nice to have a Republican hack like JasonB giving us advice on how to vote in a Democratic primary.
JasonB hates Harris. Just hates him. Why because he doesn’t take any **** from the nuts like JasonB. Sort of like Matt Blunt hates Jeff Harris. If a nutty Republican hack like JasonB doesn’t like Harris that means Democrats should vote for him.
I bet JasonB would love it if Donnelly won the primary because she is not a strong statewide candudate.
Thanks for clearing up who I should vote for.
By the way, even you have to admit that the video is clever.
> This may also explain why Bob McCullough has never been challenged
> as St. Louis County Prosecutor, certainly can’t be said to be a
> good thing. What changes the minds of people who have considered
> running against McCullough? Scary stuff I suppose.
D. Walker, it is good to see that you can spout ridiculous nonsense about something other than Obama. Might it be that McCullough has never had a serious challenge because he does a good job? Or because St. Louis county republicans have done a poor job coming up with candidates for county offices? What sort of scary stuff are you suggesting? Anybody who has read this blog for more than a few minutes knows that I’m no Democrat, but what you’re saying about McCullough is nasty - and absurd.
Mike S.–
Not to start an argument of preference here, but this comment stood out to me.
“If a nutty Republican hack like JasonB doesn’t like Harris that means Democrats should vote for him. ”
Check the Missouri GOP blogs. All they do is trash Koster. Wonder why? Because they know how effective he’ll be for the Democratic Party if he gets the nod. If Koster is so bad like everyone says, shouldn’t the R’s be lauding him? If nutty Republican hacks don’t like Koster that means Democrats should vote for him.
I dont know, but its at least worth thinking about, right?
Wouldn’t say I hated Harris - I have no respect for him - his abilities to be anything other than a “parlor game player” or his leadership of which there is none.
I’ve watched leaders come and go for years in Jefferson City. Harris is lucky that by virtue of having held his minority leader post that he will even be mentioned because he has accomplished nothing and held his members back from getting more done because of his juvenile actions as demonstrated in the videos.
Levota got more done as minority leader in 5 months than Harris ever dreamed of doing - all the while maintaining his role as the faithful opposition.
Other than that - I don’t have a problem with Harris. Vote for whomever you wish. You are making the same mistake the handfull of Harris supporters are making - underestimating Donnelly. I like that and I’m sure she does too!
God help us if Jeff is the next attorney general!
I actually used to respect Jeff quite a bit. But the way he has run his campaign has completely changed everything that I think of him.
Just last night I attended a political function in St Louis and I heard a lot of enthusiasm for Koster from nearly all of the Democrats. In fact the vast majority that I talked to at the event were either leaning towards supporting Koster or solidly behind him. A few were leaning towards Margaret Donnelly as well.
I’m not making it up. Jeff Harris may think that things are looking good for him on the blogs, but he needs to get out there and talk to the real people who vote. Most of them are NOT impressed with the campaign he’s running.
Justin - just curious how many Democrats were at your so-called gathering. When only four people show up, the majority just doesn’t seem all that relevant.
Lets face it, the minuscule support Koster has is waning. Unless he can use Rex Sinquefield’s cash to buy votes, he doesn’t stand a chance of beating either Donnelly or Harris.
I say God help us if Chris Koster is our next attorney general - because that probably means something catastrophic has happened to all other candidates in the race, including Molly Williams!
Nick K, your comment just inspired me to donate money to Donnelly’s campaign. I wouldn’t say she’s being left in the dust just because bloggers don’t write anything juicy about her.
I’d rather have a candidate who is more worried about staying focused on issues instead of playing political games and being egotistical.
Koster is the only real choice for AG. He has the experience and intelligence for the job. These silly ads Harris is making just makes that more clear. Grow up, Harris. Koster is the man for the job.
I can understand that Republicans don’t trust Koster. He was in leadership and then he abandoned them.
JasonB I know a lot of people that don’t support Jeff Harris. I know of no one that doesn’t think he is a man of integrity. My husband, who is supporting Gibbons, met Jeff a few weeks before the CCP endorsement vote that Jeff won. He and Jeff had a great conversation. He came away quite impressed with him as a straight shooter with a lot of integrity. Jeff said postive things about Mike Gibbons and Margaret Donnelly during the course of the conversation. Hubby won’t vote for him because Jeff is “too liberal” but he really liked him personally.
As a democrat I do wonder about Koster’s motivation for switching. But frankly I just think Jeff Harris is the strongest candidate. Koster has little support outside of labor and law enforcement. Donnelly isn’t strong among labor, law enforcement or outstate. Jeff is strong with evey democratic interest group and strong across the state. I also think it is difficult for a democrat from St. Louis to win a election statewide.
Nick,
Point proven. Just like you think ones who have made wrong choices in life should parish and are unfit to exist on this earth, so does your favorite beloved McCullough. A typical Conservative mind-set, that’s why you Republicans love him so.
I say this because of his opposition to drug courts, that has been proven to be a good thing and very beneficial to both society and the individual.
And I also say this because I will never in my life forget him staying on the local new’s regarding the Jack-In-The-Box shootings, that the innocent Black passenger who was a hard working young man, who was a automobile machanic and a father was just a scumbag, deserving to be dead.
Sound like you could be spiritual brothers Nicko.
