Aldermen today urged St. Louis residents to do their part to keep Anheuser-Busch from becoming the latest victim of global consolidation.

Reports have the international beer giant InBev attempting a hostile acquisition of the St. Louis brewing institution.AB Eagle

At City Hall this morning, aldermen unanimously passed a resolution asking “St. Louisans to do everything in their power to ensure that Anheuser-Busch has the support of the community to maintain the designation of being the leading American brewer.”

Alderman Stephen Conway, who pushed the resolution, pleaded with the many individuals in St. Louis who own AB stock to resist the short-term gains offered by a takeover attempt.

Follow the lead of August Busch IV,” said Conway, referring to the Budweiser scion who has rejected InBev’s encroachments.

Conway, seeking to stir up some patriotic allegiance for the King of Beers, pondered the possibility of a foreign company calling the shots on Pestalozzi Street.

“I don’t know what their logo is,” Conway said. “They are from Brazil. It could be a coco plant. It could be a banana.” (Actually, the company is based in Belgium. And this is their logo.)

Busch, Conway pointed out, is represented by an eagle. You know, just like America.

“Anheuser-Busch is a St. Louis company,” Conway said. “And an American company.”

I would hope that if such a take over took place that everyone in the U.S. would discontine to purchase Anheuser-Bush products. This is ridiculous to allow another foreign company to purchaser another American icon of a company in a hostile take-over.

The shareholders should be made to understand that they will certainly lose everything if they allow such a take over to take place.

The stock holders will most certainly not lose everything. Stock holders who own AB stock live all over the world. What do they care about St. Louis? AB sealed it’s fate when it went public and gave control to a board of strangers who only care about the bottom line. You can count on one thing; Inbev will certainly close AB’s oldest brewery as a cost cutting measure.

Great let them maske their profits off all those people all over the world, but not from Americans. And, they will lose big if Americans stop buying.

I fear I would also “boycott” AB products if it should become a “foreign” brewery. I would urge others to do the same.

I have consumed AB products for about 35 years. A bit old to become a wine drinker or start brewing my own, but I can learn.

Anheuser Busch is a great part of St. Louis and a major contributor to many organizations. But Anheuser busch also has 11 other breweries and many entertainment, conservation and green programs all across our nation. Let’s stand up America and help keep Anheuser Busch an American owned company.
