KC, St. Louis Carpenters hammer support for Nixon
In the no-surprise file: The Carpenters’ union councils in St. Louis and Kansas City announced today that they are backing Jay Nixon for governor.
Nixon, with only token primary opposition, should expect to get most, if not all, of the labor support in November — the Teamsters and AFL-CIO have already declared they are behind him.
Labor groups have made a flurry of recent endorsements. Others receiving union support in the past few days include attorney general candidates Chris Koster and Jeff Harris.
Interestingly enough, the Carpenters late last year endorsed Nixon’s potential Republican rival Sarah Steelman — but that was when she was seeking another term as state treasurer.
