Luetkemeyer, tractor hit the airwaves
Congressional hopeful Blaine Luetkemeyer has a new commercial out, highlighting the Republican’s rural and conservative credentials.
Luetkemeyer, a former state rep and family farmer from tiny St. Elizabeth, Mo., is pictured piloting his John Deere, while a narrator relays his record on abortion, gun control and “the sanctity of marriage.”
The ad is a page out of incumbent Kenny Hulshof’s playbook, whose bid to move from Capitol Hill to the governor’s office has opened the seat.
Hulshof, a farmer/lawmaker as well, has featured a tractor in his ads, too.
Luetkemeyer’s spot has him hunting and shaping-up his property.
“Just like this old shed, Congress is broken,” Luetkemeyer says while hammering away at a worn out roof. “And it’s time we fixed it.”

Luetkemeyer is working hard at visibility. When I’m in the western and southern portions of the 9th district, he’s the only candidate I really see signs or bumper stickers for.
I did see some Brock Olivo literature in a few businesses in Hermann, however.
Blaine and Dr. Onder really have their fingers on the pulse of the 9th District. No one is concerned with rising energy prices, the lack of health care in rural areas or the growing casualties in Iraq. But EVERYONE is talking about traditional marriage and human cloning. And they need to know that the person tackling the hard issues in Congress can operate a tractor correctly - plowing the fields of social conservatism.
post #2 is just about the funniest thing I have ever read. You should work for the daily show.
I don’t think Luetkemeyer’s ad made any mention of him being a banker and having an insurance license. Perhaps he should first pledge to clean up those industries before tackling Congress. When I think of Mr. Luetkemeyer, I think of a Harry Truman quote about Richard Nixon, something like, “he talks out of both sides of his mouth and lies out of both.”
Blaine Luetkemeyer truly understands the 9th Congressional District. He’s lived here his entire life and knows the needs and concerns of the constituents. He currently owns a farm which he has worked very hard to maintain. He has well represented us in Jefferson City for six years, having served on numerous committees and chairman of one, thereby understanding political strategies and how to represent his people. He is successful in his business life, and has been hardworking and dedicated to seeing that those businesses survived through good and bad economic times. He has a wonderful wife and family and a grandchild he absolutely adores. Blaine has worked hard his entire life, been successful in his endeavors, and believes strongly in family, faith and the American dream. He will represent the 9th Congressional District by working as hard for us as he has for his family.
Great, another example of a politician insulting the intelligence of the people of the 9th. We have Onder and Luetkemeyer on the right not wanting to talk about any issues other than social conservatism, then among the Democrats we have Steve Gaw, who would rather talk about how in touch he is with the rural residents of the 9th than any policy issues, and Ken Jacob who just wants to yell angrily the whole time he’s giving a speech.
“Riding on a tractor” isn’t really an issue for the 9th this year. We have real problems, and we need someone willing to present real solutions.
