McCaskill asserts McCain “shilling for Saudis;” He gently fires back

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill went for the jugular earlier today when, acting on behalf of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, she went after Sen. John McCain’s proposed cut in the gas tax.

McCaskill, D-Mo., asserted in a conference call before McCain’s appearance in Springfield, Mo. that his gas-tax cut would cost Missouri $167 million in federal highway money, and nearly 6,000 related jobs.

“People in Missouri can smell a phony gimmick a mile away,” McCaskill said.

She then accused McCain of “shilling for the Saudis” because some of the officials in oil-producing Saudi Arabia had recommended that the United States reduce its gasoline tax.

McCain replied in the interview that he hadn’t heard of Saudi Arabia’s suggestion.

As for McCaskill’s jab, he said:

“I understand the times. McCaskill is a national co-chair of the Obama campaign. I think that’s kind of a slender reed, and I don’t think anybody in America believes that I would be influenced in any way by the opinion of the Saudis.”

McCain said he had been an outspoken critic of the Saudis for years.

That came out a bit at Wednesday’s forum, when a member of the audience asked if it was true that Saudi Arabia’s production cost for each barrel of oil is only $2.

The man asked what McCain called that.

McCain replied: “A cartel.”

McCain is flip-flopping on everything. His most recent flop-flop has been concerning off-shore drilling along the coasts. He has always been an outspoken critic of that too until yesterday, now he has decided to fall in line with Conservative public opinions concerning approving leases for drilling along the coasts.

Who can tell who the heck McCain is anymore? Or how can anyone believe anything that he saids?

The fact that Bush knew of this suggestion, in fact it was Bush who was given the suggestion on his trip there recently, now suddenly McCain is suggesting this very same thing? What does that tell everyone?

McCAIN IS FOUR MORE YEARS OF BUSH!!!

Whoever has been yanking and controlling Pres. Bush’s leash is yanking yanking and controlling McCain’s leash also. They are all the same bunch.

There come the tired “old politics” that Obama always dismisses, yet practices. Four more years of Bush? I predicted that, whoever the nominee was, that would be the mantra this year. Thanks for proving me right.

Let me hit you with another comparison to the past, since you seem so fond of comparisons. A windfall-profits tax. Raising the tax rates over and over again. An economic policy that would produce stagflation. Appeasement of our enemies. Constantly lecturing the American people that they aren’t doing enough. And an overinflated sense of his own importance.

Yes, people. Obama would be four more years of Jimmy Carter. It’s simply too bad that people don’t remember how miserable the Carter years were. People would be clamoring for the past eight years if Carter were the incumbent. And, thanks to the lack of knowledge most people have about history, they might get that soon enough.

Correction: The last line of my first paragraph should have read: “I predicted in 2004 that, whoever the nominee was, that would be the mantra this year. Thanks for proving me right.”

Whatever you say Johnny, the truth is, we are at the mercy of the saudis, and other like them because for over 30 years you white house fools have denied money for PROVEN alternative energy sources. You funding your buddies instead. So now we are in a bit deep, and you still don’t have a good plan that doesn’t enrich your buddies in the black fuel industries. We aren’t fools mumbling boy. At least most of us. I love that his dismissiveness towards Claire doesn’t include recognition that they spent our infrastructure money buying infrastructure TWICE for the iraqis because they didn’t train them how to maintain it the first time. Big omission, wouldn’t you say war toy boy? Will you wait until 2009 to tell us of the military draft you are planning? Or can you go until 2010 with the tired troops and breaking equipment? Only three major bridges get cargo east to west in this country Johnny…three little bridges.

SMC, there were many thing that impeded the Carter administration, many of which were repub-based. Carter did more for diplomacy during those times than you will ever know. At least give him credit for that. He has world respect and gratitude like none of the present republicans ever will. And stateside, the organizations he works with have picked up the pieces of many disasters the repubs left.
