More details on McCain’s appearance
SPRINGFIELD - John McCain spent about a half hour focusing on energy: the need to pursue more off-shore drilling, an increased research and investment in clean coal technology and, especially, a new emphasis on expanding nuclear power.
McCain also made a broad appeal for alternative energy solutions such as wind and hydroelectric power.
After his initial remarks (see previous post), he queried a group of energy and business experts on those areas.
Afterwards, McCain took questions and covered a variety of topics. He empahsized the war in Iraq, his stance on making President Bush’s tax cuts permanent; his support of a temporary repeal of federal taxes on gasoline; his a new stimulus package aimed at taxpayers.
He characterized likely opponent Barack Obama as a tax-and-spend liberal and suggested Obama wasn’t in touch with voters in southwest Missouri, typically a bedrock of social conservatism.
McCain was clearly more comfortable without the teleprompter. He seemed to relish addressing people individually.

AH, silly Johnny…when are you going to admit you will institute a military draft to keep occupying the world with our young men and women?
OK, so far we’ve got a front page column that basically reports verbatim what McCain said, we’ve got a Mannies column where she quotes two local Republican business owners and one person-on-the-street speaking in favor of McCain and only a representative of the Democratic Party speaking against McCain, a copy of McCain’s transcript, and now a post that includes McCain’s thoughts on Obama. I am early awaiting the “balance” that the Post-Dispatch so diligently provided when Obama was in town by covering the massive 23 person pro-McCain rally:

Adam, you have exactly the opposite opinion of several Tims posting on other blogs today. It seems they are jealous that Obama has surpassed them in life in every way. The repubs have been doing this for decades to the democrats. They have to think of something else besides chads.
Hey Adam,
It was a pleasure to meet you today and agree with you on your analysis 100%.
“McCain was clearly more comfortable without the teleprompter. He seemed to relish addressing people individually.”
So we have one candidate who cant work without the teleprompter in Obamessiah and one that doenst like it because it is impersonal. Wonder who the Post Disgrace is going to endorse?
Si,
What on earth even if were true, which it is not, have to do with the issue? This type thinking is ridiculous when one consider the serious plight we are facing in this country. We are looking for the best leader, not a candidate who is more comfortable talking with town-hall people on a one on one basis.
How is it a Democrat or Republican problem that the oil companies will not explore and drill on the over 60 million acres that they already have leases on.
You Republicans and others are so gullible to follow along like little sheep making this a political issue against Democrats because Congress will not okay new leases for oil exploration along the coastal shore areas.
THE OIL COMPANIES NEED TO DRILL AND EXPLORE ON THE 60 MILLION+ ACRES THAT AREADY HAVE LEASES TO DRILL ON!!
The problem is the oil companies not Democrats. The oil companies need to take some of their 600 billion dollar profit and explore for oil with it!
There’s no guarantee that oil will be found in any of the places. THAT’S WHY IT IS CALLED oil drill EXPLORATION!! Stop being so gullible!
If the oil companies were serious about exploring for oil, they would get busy doing it. They don’t want to, nor can Congress force them to explore.
REPUBLICANS are using this as nothing but pandering because they know how gullible the Republican voters are, so easy to get Republican voters to follow along supporting stupidity. The sad thing is that they still have not learned anything from such a mistake as their pandering to go to war.
Now they are pandering off shore oil leases as if that will solve our high gasoline prices. IT WILL NOT.
Yes, there should be exploration, it should have begun yesterday, but the greedy oil companies do not want to reinvest their money to do it. One oilrig alone cost 1 billion dollars, which they don’t want to risk.
It is time for our government to cancel those leases given to the oil companies and allow someone else to have these leases and explore the land for oil.
But, what makes more sense is, the government should begin exploring and owning oil companies if oil is found instead of allowing oil companies to control the supply and demand aspects. After all these leases are on Federal property!
This is something that maybe we can consider instead of wasting all those billions every month on the Iraq disaster that the Republican administration created.
PANDER, pandering, that all the Republican Party know to do, PLAY STUPID GAMES!
