New Obama ad plays up “heartland” roots
As reported at the mother ship, Barack Obama has begun running his first general elections ads in Missouri and 17 other states.
The ad is similar to one Obama ran during the primaries — looks like it could have been shot at the same house — alternating between a grainy photo montage and a shot of the candidate in a living-room setting.
Obama’s newest ad highlights his ties to the Midwest — his mom grew up in Wichita, Kan. and he cut his political teeth in Chicago, where he now lives.
“I was raised by a single mom and my grandparents,” Obama says in the ad. “We didn’t have much money. But they taught me values straight from the Kansas heartland where they grew up — accountability and self reliance”
The AP adroitly points out that the ad is not actually running in Kansas, but could be seen by those who share a television market with Kansas City, Mo.
“Accountability and Self-Reliance?” Give me a break. That should have read “Government-Reliance.”
I didn’t know being born in Hawaii and attending private schools qualified as having “midwest roots”. And during the primary campaigns, didn’t Obama cite his childhood stays in Indonesia and countries as examples of foreign policy experience?

Of course you don’t. Everyone knows that The Great and Dear Leader, the Messiah of America, the Blessed Star of Illinois, the Healer of Eternity, descended from the right hand of the Father. One thousand cranes descended from Heaven to place his infant body wrapped in swaddling clothes in a manger.

In this thinly veiled reference to McCain’s first marriage…Jwes, you need to get your facts straight. According to Carol McCain, her accident had nothing to do with their divorce. He’s been paying her medical bills and will for the rest of her life, she bears no animosity toward him, so why should anyone else?
If you’ve read any of the books written by McCain or about McCain, you know that he freely admits to having been a playboy in his youth. He freely admits his mistakes, and he knows how things appear.
My question for those who want to condemn McCain for his mistakes…do you also condemn Bill Clinton for his philandering. Would you also not vote for him just based on that knowledge?

Good point. All of the Republicans who flipped out over Bill Clinton should definitely not vote for the philandering John McCain. And all the Democrats can vote against him because they care about the country.
1. “Private school” - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punahou_School a Congregationalist School, listed as a “college preparatory school”. Of course no one in St Louis would ever find themselves in such a school, unless they went to MICDS, or Rosati Kain, or Cardinal Ritter, or John Burroughs, or…., but then again I guess that is different.
2. Now if your point is that Senator Obama’s having gone to such a school makes him an “elitist”, then what does the fact that Senator McCain has a grandfather who was an Admiral and who has a Navy Base named after him, and who helped him get into Annapolis make him if not part of the “elitist establishment”?

Of course not. Nor do they condemn Saint Obama for his. Only Republicans are to be condemned … in a most non-partisan way, of course.
God, Go Fish is still SO bitter and pissy! So if a military brat has traveled it would be ok to say the same thing Obama did? You would accept it from that person? I’ve heard your party do so before. How many politicians went to private schools abroad? Lots! The dude had a childhood here, and he had constant contact with his midwestern family base. So what’s your point, other than to spread repub foolishness?
It’s kind of odd you don’t want a guy with the experiences Obama had when we have so many problems that require a world experience. You get a lot more positive experience adapting to and being exposed to other cultures than a more naive person growing up isolated from differences. Seeing it early without the veil of adult propagandas and “shoulds” offers absorbtion to the soul. It sticks and could come in handy with the diplomatic problems we face.
When you spend several years with advanced degrees working the mean streeets of Chicago for under 20k a year, and doing as much good as Obama did, then maybe you’d have room to criticize. Most of you don’t, so spit that red herring out before it stains your pearly white teeth. Extra credit if you reseacrh Obama’s mamma and decide if being exposed to her micro-financing expertise helped Obama at all regarding being able to deal with this country’s economic issues.

Amazed, considering the number of americans living off gov’ment checks, I doubt your relatives are free of check-collectors. Methinks you are most amazed by the lunacy under your own roof. Do research on Obama’s mamma. She did more good for the world than you ever will. Obama has done more for the world than you ever will. You look kind of silly right now.

How much good did he do? Did the crime rate go down due to his activism? Seems kind of funny that the same streets he worked so hard on are suffering a crime wave. So much for all his talk.

David, you look kind of silly making assumptions about people you have no idea about. I would gladly sit down and lay out a resume of good deeds against that of Obama. He is a little older than me, so if you want to compare his first 34 years against mine(that’s all I have) you would find that I have helped my community, country, and world.
Social Security first placed their hooks in my paycheck in 1986 when I was 13 years old and they have been in there every year since. I can guaran-damn-tee you that some old folks and deadbeats have benefitted in those 21 years. Now tell us when Obama began “helping.”
If you want to call resume padding as a community activists, be my guest. That don’t amount to a hill of beans on the accomplishment scale.
Last two posters…so many people would laugh at your silly chest pounding. There is no way you two could hold a candle to Obama’s accomplishments. I will take you to the areas where Obama has made a difference. Would you mind telling me which areas you made a great difference in? I’ll go there to see the results of YOUR good works. Just to challenge your odd bragging of course since we know you can’t compare good deeds very easily. I DO know Obama has uplifted more people with hope and engaged more folks teetering on the edge of bitterness and crime than you have. I just have never seen either of you post on here before in a way that made me think you were interested in public service, or other’s welfare (no, not checks)…well-being.
Very odd posts by you today! You assumed too amazed by your snide gov’ment check comment. You tried to diss Obama because his mamma had to take aid for a while. But when she was back on her feet she became a world famous micro-financing expert and helped millions. Again, you guys are off the radar on helping millions, but then again, you post anonymously, so either one of you could be the reincarnation of mamma Teresa for all we know.
