UPDATED: Obama in Independence
Adam Jadhav

Unlike us, the Blue Springs examiner was on the scene this morning for Sen. Barack Obama’s speech.

Here’s a little video reportage from some of Obama’s fans outside the show.

Original post of 10:32 a.m.:

The doors were set to open at 9 a.m. for folks at the Truman Memorial Building. We hear that this even will be heavy on the red, white and blue themes, with the Fourth of July looming a few days away.

At this hour I’m still awaiting any word on whether the speech has started or any kind of advance copy.

The conventional wisdom on this is that Obama is trying to shore up credentials in the face of various rumors about Obama’s background, some of which call his religion and patriotism into question.

There were two good stories from the Washington Post in the past three days on this subject. Here on the view from a small town in Ohio, and here on a political expert professor who sought to trace one particular claim: that Obama is a Muslim.

I’ll try to keep you posted as we hear more today.

Also, Political Fix could be a little slow today. Our leader Jo Mannies is out of pocket, as well as other regulars Tony Messenger and Jake Wagman. If anyone has news to share however, e-mail me: ajadhav@post-dispatch.com.
