Starr struck: Hubbard camp takes the blame
A late update on the dust-up surrounding Sixth Ward Alderman Kacie Starr Triplett and her support of State Senate hopeful Rodney Hubbard.
Friday morning, the Hubbard campaign sent a release boasting that the Sixth Ward had endorsed him over primary opponent Robin Wright-Jones — who lives in the ward.
Hubbard’s statement included a quote of support from Triplett.
Later, Triplett released a statement of her own, which included praise for both Wright-Jones and Hubbard.
The statement, to me at least, appeared like an attempt to ease the tension that might arise from Triplett backing Hubbard over her own constituent.
Turns out it was the other way around.
The statement Triplett released later in the day was her original endorsement notice. The Hubbard campaign, understandably perhaps, simply “cherry picked” the quotes favorable to him, and left out the parts about Wright-Jones.
Hubbard campaign manager Antonio Frenchapologized to Triplett for putting her in the awkward spot, feeling so bad that he sent her flowers. And for presuming the gaffe was Triplett’s, you can add our name to the card.

The Hubbard campaign did something that wasn’t on the up and up?! I don’t believe it…
So is Antonio French a journalist or a publicist or what?
so typical of rodney and antonio. shame on them both. Antonio is an idiot.
How about they release the poll where they are down 20 pts
Jake, as long as we’re pointing out typos here, it’s spelled “awkward”
Thanks Pat …
I knew as soon I mentioned the typos in the previous post, I was setting myself up for an akward, er, awkward, position.
Cheers…
JasonB you sound very angry. This is a free country and people are expressing their opinions on this blog. Opinions are rectums, everbody has one. If it wasn’t for the opposing opinion, you would not have any reason to express your opinion.
Everybody knows that Rep. Hubbard strongly supported Lewis Reed for President of the Board of Alderman, and Alderman Kacie Triplett is now a member of that group who are funded by Republicans. Money is a hell of drug!
This group of Republicrats (Republicans in Democratic clothing)are not use to receiving this much money for being loyal to a party. The Democratic Party did not give these individuals everflowing dollars, but Republicans are in exchange for a vote in the favor of Republican principles. For example, the elimination of campaign contribution limits.
Unfortunately, the Democratic Party’s Top Brass are afraid to do anything to punish these traitors or better yet say anything. The Chairman of the State Democratic Party John Temporiti has been quiet, the Executive Director Ken Franklin has been quiet, the Secretary of State Robin Carnahan has been quiet, and all the Democratic leaders in the City of St. Louis have been quiet as Republican money has funded a group of Republicratic candidates to destroy any candidates standing up for Democratic principles in the August 5, 2008 primary.
If we do not lay out ourselves in the service of mankind whom should we serve?
Abigail Adams-1778
However, credit must be given to Attorney General candidate Jeff Harris for calling out Chris Koster as an IMPOSTER (ADVERTISED ON THIS WEBSITE), JEFF HARRIS IS NOT AFRAID!!!!!
The support for issuing the proper press statements and coverage at a moments notice for the Republicrats must be paying off for somebody, because most people don’t upgrade to a convertible Mercedes Benz.
Money is a hell of a drug!
> So is Antonio French a journalist or a publicist or what?
Antonio French is an “advocacy journalist” who is almost as objective as Rush Limbaugh. These days, he has leveraged his “journalism” position into work as a political publicist. Apparently, he isn’t a very good one … to think he would not get caught with an underhanded little stunt like this one.
> Antonio is an idiot.
And a liar too. Don’t forget that. What a train wreck!
> So is Antonio French a journalist or a publicist or what?
Antonio formerly published a hardcopy paper called Public Defender (Pub Def for short), and now runs the well-regarded blog pubdef.net, which is linked in the blogroll, below right. (The late Tim Russert quoted from it on the Meet the Press program that featured the 2006 Talent-McCaskill debate.) He has a related business as a professional campaign organizer. In addition to Rodney Hubbard, he has done compensated work for Aldermanic President Lewis Reed, Alderman Triplett, and web design for Dem AG contestant Chris Koster and several others. He always discloses on his blog when a candidate or public official being written about there is a client. Antonio is also a candidate to unseat his home ward Democratic committeeman. Antonio’s no idiot, and doesn’t lie any more than any other politician.
