While the gov’s away, Kinder signs bills, calls in National Guard

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Perhaps because he dropped his own bid for governor, Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder appears to be enjoying his stint as the state’s stand-in chief executive while Gov. Matt Blunt is in Montreal.

This afternoon, e-releases from Kinder’s office announced that he’d signed two bills into law:

–In Springfield, Kinder signed House Bill 1380, which “allows a board of directors formed under a Senior Services Fund tax, to provide money to senior-related programs for operational and capital needs from property taxes collected.”

–In Dexter, Mo., he signed House Bill 1313, which “requires the Commissioner of the Office of Administration to give preference to certain disabled veterans doing business as Missouri companies when awarding state contracts.”

Kinder also ”mobilized ten Missouri National Guard Liaison Officers to support emergency response coordination.”

“Counties along the Mississippi river are in grave danger of severe flooding as they continue to experience heavy rain and relentless weather conditions,” Kinder explained in a release.  “By mobilizing these National Guard liaison officers, we are taking specific precautionary measures to ensure affected communities’ protective needs are top priority…”

And Monday afternoon in Clayton, he’s slated to sign two more bills into law:

–Senate Bill 718, “an initiative to expand the Quality Jobs Act”;

–Senate Bill 720, “a bill that will protect Missouri seniors from the dangers of summer heat.”

I don’t get the ‘appears to be enjoying’ crack, at least not from the context of the article.

Is there more to the story, or were you just being snide?

I wasn’t being snide. It’s just that Kinder’s office was sending out a bunch of releases outlining everything he was doing what he is the acting governor.

There’s nothing wrong with that. One of the great things about Kinder is that he really enjoys public service.

Good thing the citizens of Missouri were able to defeat Ward Connerly and the fake ‘civil rights initiative’ otherwise HB1313 would be illegal.
I won’t hold my breath for Kinder to say thank you…

Peter doesn’t enjoy the service as much as the attention

Yeah, I was lookin’ for that
“I’m in control here” moment…
but alas, it seems the calendar
is serving
and Kinder is just returning volley.
no offense intended
to the un-presumptive
non-candidate.

What idiots!

I’ve made the determination that it doesn’t matter WHAT one does in their role as an elected official, if it’s a republican, the same morons are going to get in here and have SOMETHING negative to say about it.

How about this one …

THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR IS DOING HIS JOB!!!

Get a life, people!!

Sorry, Jim, but I was talking about Kinder as a person. Party designation had nothing to do with my comment.

Are you serious? “Ten” National Guard? I’m sure that is a relief to all those who are in need, some lost everything. I am a proud guardsman, and I remember 1993. Perhaps things aren’t as bad yet, but we have stood up countless times for storm damage and power outages- If ever we can be utilized, why not now?
