Baker maintains 9th District Demo money lead; Gaw, Onder kick in $100,000 apiece after deadline
Ninth District U.S. House candidate Judy Baker of Columbia reported donations of more than $185,000 since April to boost her campaign total to over $400,000 - and maintain her money lead over her three Democratic rivals.
In second place in the Democratic dollar derby on new finance reports was Steve Gaw of Holts Summit, who raised a total of $217,750, including $107,081 in the April 1-July 16 reporting period.
Gaw also reported lending $100,000 in personal funds after the July 16 cutoff date for the new reports, which were due Thursday. Baker earlier this year reported making a personal loan of $10,000 to her campaign.
Meanwhile, Republican Bob Onder of Lake Saint Louis reported lending $100,000 more in his own money to his 9th District campaign - pushing his personal commitment to $350,000 in loans.
Onder kicked in the new $100,000 after July 16. GOP rival Blaine Luetkemeyer of St. Elizabeth earlier Thursday reported kicking in $325,000 of his own money into his campaign.
When contributions from others are counted as well, Onder’s overall campaign-long receipts have exceeded $580,000, including $469,684 by the end of the July 16 period. Luetkemeyer’s total receipts by mid-July were $466,988. Donations since then boosted his total to $477,188.
Baker and Onder are state representatives and Gaw and Luetkemeyer are former state representatives.
Missouri Congressional candidates were required on Thursday to file reports listing financial activity through July 16. They also must file follow-up summaries of additional contributions and loans made in excess of $1,000 apiece after July 16 within 48 days after receiving them.

Personal loans of $10,000? $100,000? $325,000? Lordy, what do this rich folks want with a little old low paying job in Congress? That fellow loaning himself $350,000 to pay for his campaign wouldn’t make enough in two years as congressman to pay himself back (and pay the rent and grocery bill). Or do they get to eat for free up in Washington?
Practically…last I checked even our state representatives get $75 for food per day. Go Judy, Go!
Claire loaned herself 1.6 million for her failed bid for governor and never recouped it in campaign donations. One must ask how power hungary are these people to squander that kid of jack while poor folks can’t afford to eat.
hungry not Hungary.
