Col. Jackson is McCain’s Mo. Co-chair

The campaign of Sen. John McCain announced this morning that Col. Jack Jackson would become the co-chair of McCain’s Missouri campaign.

He retired from active duty in the Marine Corps in 1977, having flown numerous missions and received many medals in Vietnam. He remained in the Marine Corps Reserves and attained the rank of Colonel.

Jackson also served in the state House, elected in 2002, holding positions on a number of commitees.

In private life, Jackson served as a test pilot for Boeing. He briefly retured to active duty as an instructor during Operation Desert Shield.

Statements from the McCain Campaigns release:

“All through his life John McCain has put the interests of our great nation first,” Jackson said. “He showed courage and integrity throughout his distinguished 22-year naval career, particularly as a POW when he refused early release. John McCain has spent his time in Congress standing up for hard working American taxpayers and reaching across the aisle to get things done. I am grateful for his service to our country and proud to work on his behalf in the state of Missouri.”

McCain added, “Jack has served his country well. He has stood up for veterans and represented his community in the Missouri House. I am grateful for his commitment to my campaign and look forward to working with him in the coming months.”

while I know people who read this blog love Jack Jackson, is it really wise to pick someone who couldn’t win his own parties endorsement in a statewide race to run your statewide campaign?

The choice of Jackson fits the McCain mold, he’s a rare truley honest politician with the renegade tag who isnt afraid to stand up to his own party. He wouldnt tow the Party line and that cost him the Auditor’s race, he would have had an overwhelming win statewide if a second St. Louis area candidate hadn’t jumped in and siphoned off just enough votes to take away the win. With the support of Senators Danforth and Bond and hopefully a competent staff Jackson is just the kind of leader McCain needs in Missouri to pull together the independents and the party regulars.

Jackson lost the Auditor race because he did not have the juice or the smarts. He had to prop up his campaign with $350,000 of his own money. Had he spent the remaining $150 of the family jewels he would have won.

Richard is right. Is the judgment there? That’s probably why he is “co-chair.” Figurehead.

Jackson lost that Auditor’s race not because he didn’t have the juice or the smarts. He lost the race because he had to fight against the state party who was (whether or not they want to admit it)pushing for Sandra Thomas. He also had to battle in a 5 way primary where the only area of the state that was represented twice was St. Louis. With that said, Jack still won St. Louis County with almost 50%.

I cannot think of a better person to be the Co-Chair of Mccain’s campaign in the state. Also, if I am not mistaken, Danforth is the figurehead Chairman. Jack will be the guy who is on the ground doing the hard work. Despite not having the support of his party in the Auditor primary, Jack is respected by many people in the state, including people within the Republican Party, not to mention with independents and veterans of any kind. He also knows how to run a statewide race which is important because that will be in essence what he will be doing.

Is Jack really respected by many people in the state? When he was running I did not see any signs of support for him outside the St. Louis area? That is my point. Why not get someone who has more of a statewide appeal then just a loyal st. louis base? McCain should not count on winning St. Louis.

In a McCain White House I would be willing to bet Jack Jackson will be nominated as Secretary of VA. Any takers?

Jack Jackson is one of the most honest politicians around. Yes-He lost the auditor race only because the MOGOP establishment wanted Thomas- who was loser to begin with. I am a staunch conservative, who must align myself with Republicans out of necessity. Two things to keep in mind:
Since the established party did not want Jackson- There is a reason and it is why we needed him. McCain is lucky to Get Jack. Also- The MOGOP is backing Hulchoff for Gov- Good reason to vote for Steelman, who is a good honest person. She is a leader, not a follower, and does what she thinks is right. Jackson and Steelman are both what we need in Missouri and the USA
