Competition for Olivo? Yes, and no
Looks like Mizzou football favorite Brock Olivo isn’t the only former college athlete running for Congress in the state’s 9th District.
In a post yesterday, we used a baseball reference to describe Republican Blaine Luetkemeyer’s formation of a group of agricultural supporters. (It’s a “Farm Team.” Get it? Farm team?)
Turns out we weren’t that far off,um, base, per a message from Luetkemyer spokesman Paul Sloca, nee of the state GOP.
“Blaine actually played baseball while at Lincoln University in Jefferson City,” Sloca wrote, “and was All-Conference in the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association his senior year as a outfielder, when he hit .372 (third highest in conference) and ended the season with an 18-game hitting streak.”
Luetkemeyer, Sloca said, also had tryouts for two major-league clubs, the Royals and Pirates.
Judging by his conservative views, we suspect Luetkemeyer batted from the right side of the plate, but if he ever decided to take up pitching lefty, there might be a place for him on the Cardinals roster — that is, if they can fit his name on the uniform.
Olivo is going to win this hands down. This is an outsiders year and Luetekewhatever and boob onder are insdiers.

As a Democrat, I could root for Mr. “Never Voted” Olivo to be the nominee. However, how sad if this guy with no experience and no prior interest in political behavior (including voting) would the a major party’s nominee. Especially when there are experienced legislators like Onder and Luetkemeyer in the race.
Suzy none of your points ever seem to be an issue when a candidate has the right last name. Many with little to no experience get the nod when they have the name.
Brock stole an inflatable Budweiser Frog from my house while we were both at Mizzou. Plus he didn’t drink in college. I would never vote for a thief or a guy who didn’t drink at least a few beers in college.
I’m with you, if you went to college and didn’t have at least one beer, you are can’t possibly be experienced enough to run for congress. Hell that place is full of drunks, liars, and womanizers and that’s just the Kennedys.

Do you really want a guy in office, making national decisions about war, social security and your livelihood, who 1)have NEVER voted and 2)has no idea what he is doing?
Come on, people. It’s the year of the Democrats. Be real.
Amazed, Say what you will, but at least I have my own points. Not just posts that belittle others’ posts.
I thought it was general consensus that Olivo counldn’t be elected dog catcher after admitting his political unawareness. Oh well, so much the easier for the democratic candidate.
Just to give Olivo the benefit of the doubt. I did check out his website to see what his stance on the issues of the day would be. Some were conflicting, some were straight out of the GOP playbook (meaning nothing new). However, I must say that it was eye-brow raising that he spent more space/words talking about his background as a football player than on the issues. That spoke volumes!
Suzy I was just pointing out to you that BOTH parties have fielded shallow candidates with NO qualifications and many have won. Case in point is Ryan McKenna on the state level. I know Ryan fairly well. He was 24 or 25, little or no direction and absolutely NO political experience. Daddy pulled a few strings and Bhammo!! dude’s a state rep. To cap it off, the dems chose Ryan over Kent Duniphan, a retired teacher from the Fox district with 30 years of real world experience on Ryan.
So to sum it up, don’t act like this is a Republican issue when you say, “How sad if this guy….would be the nominee.” It’s pretty damn sad all the way around when an inexperienced, dimwit or an American Idolesque candidate gets the nod.
