Jetton announces news conference “in response” to Kinder, Steelman attacks
State House Speaker Rod Jetton just e-mailed an announcement that he’ll hold a news conference on Thursday “in response to Lt. Governor Peter Kinder’s recent accusations…”
Jetton said that at Thursday’s event, he will ”make a statement and answer any questions pertaining to the validity of the claims.”
Jetton’s conference is in response to recent calls by Kinder and state Treasurer Sarah Steelman for changes in the state law, to bar public officials from also being campaign consultants. Both made clear they’re referring to Jetton.
His news conference is slated for 2 p.m. outside the office of the Missouri Ethics Commission, 3411 A-Knipp Drive, in Jefferson City.

“Several sources have confirmed to MOPNS a 2006 off capitol Republican caucus meeting where Speaker Jetton was asked by a legislator if he had his permission to do something. The quick witted Speaker replied:
“I don’t care what you do as long as you’re over 21 and white!”
Witnesses told us that Jetton was pleased with his quip until it was pointed out to him - and he realized too late - that there was a lone African American in the caucus and in the room. Witnesses say Jetton profusely apologized to the legislator, as did other members. We are also told that many legislators apologized privately to the African American legislator throughout the day for Rowdy Rod’s bad taste “joke.”
So they pointed out to him that a Black Missourian was there. Did anyone point out to him what a racist statement he had made?
While I don’t necessarily believe that term limits is the answer but has created some problems instead, Jetton is a great example of how term limits works. Our legislature is better off without him.
If there’s something wrong with being a racist Republican, then so many of them wouldn’t continue to be elected.
OK AJH, I really appreciated the comment about all of us being “racist.” Thanks so much for that blanket statement. You tend to sound more like Rowdy Rod Jetton.
I have said, and continue to say, that Rod Jetton was a liability for the Missouri Republican Party from the start. Because he was able to raise a ton of money when he first ran in 2000, everybody in the party kissed a parituclar part of his anatomy. How do I know? I WAS THERE!
He was elevated to speaker not because of ability to lead, but rather due to money and intimidation. Caucus meetings were a time for him to continue his “elequent quips” about being a former Marine and preacher’s son from Marble Hill. Believe me when I tell you they got old fast.
Perhaps the biggest embarassment was when he interupted former Governor Bob Holden’s State of the State Speech. I was no fan of Bob Holden and did not care for him as Governor. However, the disrepsect shown by Mr. Jetton on that day was inexcusable and an afront to the Repbulican Party and State of Missouri.
Many current and former members of the Missouri House will tell you that there was not conflict. However many of us sat there grinding our teeth and listening to the continued rhetoric. It got to the point where many of us would not attend fundraisers where Rod was present. He controlled the HRCC as his own private club.
I have one more point. Has ANYONE come to Rod’s defense? Have you seen anyone from the MRP, House, Senate, Lobbyists or public at large denounce this criticism? This fact alone is more than ample evidence that Mr. Jetton’s conduct as a legislator was suspect from the start.
Concerned Republican: You might want to read AJH’s comment again, slowly. He didn’t say “all of you” are racist. It is not a blanket statement. He refers to “so many”. I mean, are you reading the same post? If your reading comprehension skills are this remedial I’m not sure you should be participating in a forum like this.
Although not all Republicans are racists, Jetton does exhibit common characteristics of many [limbaughian] Republicans from Southeast Missouri. That’s why he was re-elected and worshiped. Not because he’s a preacher’s son from Marble Hill. Half the men living in Marble Hill are preachers’ sons.
Concerned Republican…Maybe Holden should attend Jetton’s press conference.
Make a few flatulence noises while Rod tries his best to act disgracefully dignified.
BREAKING NEWS:
It was just reported on the MGOPLW website that in 2007 Rod Jetton kidnapped a kitten and held it for ransom at his palacial estate in Marble Hill. It was kept quiet when he agreed to have no contact with kittens after this incident.
Here is the scary part…the kitten was black
Jetton a preachers son? If these things are true, he sounds more like the devil’s son.
But, more a concern should be, if he is truly as described and has done all these things, what does it say concerning Missouri and the Republican party? This is what the people should be concerned about.
If this has not been a concern for the Republican Party, then it is obvious that the majaritory are very PROUD racists. Worst is that these ones refuse to be honest about it publicly, very unlike this country’s racsit leaders of the past. At least you could respect their honesty.
