UPDATE –Koster runs 2 versions of ad; McCulloch makes appeal in one
St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch is headlining a powerful new TV spot for state Sen. Chris Koster, D-Harrisonville, a St. Louis native who’s running for attorney general.
According to Koster’s campaign, this ad is only running in the St. Louis area.
McCulloch’s voiceover and endorsement could help change the subject from the controversies over how Koster raises campaign money.
(Maybe it’s just me, but McCulloch’s voice in the ad seems to strongly resemble that of actor Peter Coyote, who narrates all those cool PBS series on the Civil War and baseball)
Here’s the ad:
BUT, a second, more mundane version of the ad — with the typical male announcer doing the voice-over — is running elsewhere in the state.
Here’s that ad, so you can compare:

Great ad.
Chris Koster is the only candidate running with the experience to be Attorney General. 14 years as a public servant. 10 years as a County Prosecutor followed by 4 years as a State Senator. Harris and Donnelly do not come close to the experience which Koster will bring to the Attorney General’s office.
The only part of the ad which I wish Koster was able to touch on was all the other great organizations which have endorsed him, Police, Fire Fighters, Organized Labor and Prosecutors (including Bob McCulloch)across the entire state.
Absolutely correct Horner. Below is a list of some of the organizations standing up and endorsing Chris Koster over both Harris and Donnelly. All great true Democratic organizations. With this type of support and experience it is no surprise that McCulloch is and so many others are supporting Koster.

I must admit I was orginally suspicious of Koster, and was leaning toward Jeff Harris. I like Harris because he is not from St. Louis, like the rest of our ticket and he’s been a good guy. But I must say, Koster is impressive and without a doubt is the best candidate that we can run against the GOP in Noveber. He has run the best race of all the Democrat AG candidates and his TV is not only excellent it is everywhere. As a former Harris supporter, I now look forward to voting for Chris Koster on August 5th.
Horner and Glarner (no doubt the same person):
Thanks for posting a listing of local organizations straight from Koster’s website. It’s clear you intent is to solely use this board as a propaganda machine.
Face it, Chris Koster is not the best choice in this race. As a DEMOCRAT I will be backing Jeff Harris, a lifelong Democrat who opposed the Republican-led cuts on Medicaid.
This ad is funded through an illegal fundraising scheme that the Ethics Commission will soon have to issue a ruling on. That ruling, by the way, could land Koster in court on CRIMINAL charges. Do you know what that means? Koster, a candidate for Attorney General, is facing the same track record as the man he used to work for - felon Bill Webster.
So to all the Koster supporters you’re right - he’ll make a great follow-up to Bill Webster. But frankly, I look forward to watching him lose the election in two weeks and later paying tens of thousands in fines.
Johnny,
I agree with you on two points.
First you said “I was orginally [sic] suspicious of Koster”. Me too, in fact I still am. He’s a political opportunist and that’s reason enough for me to continue to be suspicious of him.
Second you said Koster is “the best candidate that we can run against the GOP in Noveber [sic]“. Again, I agree. Noveber is a non-existent month and when that month shows up on a calendar maybe I’ll consider a vote for Koster. Until then, it’s Jeff Harris all the way!
As for the ad, it’s amazing what a bunch of rich people can buy you - television time. Thank you Jim Stowers and Rex Sinquefield.
Z,
I am not Horner. Nice try though. Are you Shecky, Gay Dem Girl, Sexy Dem Girl, and Nick? You do not need to answer that, do not really care.
Kinda doubt that Bob McCulloch would do a TV spot for Koster if he thought that Koster was not the best person for the job or if he thought Koster had broken a law..Don’t you think, don’t you??. Also, kinda don’t think all the organizations listed above would endorse Koster if they though there was a better candidate out there.
Koster has a ton of real Democrats supporting him and the most experience of all the candidates running. I understand why you feel it neccesary to sling mud.
Things the Koster campaign should find unfortunate:
1) organizations don’t get to vote in the election - people do
2) televisions don’t vote - people do
3) Koster’s rich friends only get one vote in the election, even if their over-limit contributions can still find their way to his campaign’s coffers
4) those pesky votes to cut Medicaid from 2005 still haunting Koster
5) campaigning is so tough Koster missed 5 percent of the votes in 2008
6) Koster’s replacement as Cass County prosecutor is backing Jeff Harris (hmm…)
7) and the list goes on…
By the way, I’m just Curt - no one else - good try though
No doubt about it. Great endorsement. If McCulloch is endorsing Koster (along with all the other names listed above) all the arm waving about Koster is over. Welcome to the party Chris, you have my vote.
So willing to break the law to win an election. Chris Koster will never be a Democrat in my eyes. The political opportunist is never the person to vote for - he will always do what is most advantageous politically, not what is right or even what is not that is still based on conviction. Chris Koster is wrong for Missouri and he will never get my vote.
Also, let us not forget that Koster bought endorsements from La Raza, Freedom and William Clay. Who else has he bought off?
Koster’s posters are so full of it. Time and time again it has been pointed out that Jeff has the most endorsements. Inflating endorsments by listing each local is garbage also. This is a site that has counted the endorsments by all the candidates. http://thewatchword.wordpress.com/2008/06/23/former-lt-governer-joe-maxwell-endorses-jeff-harris/
I would also say that Roger Wilson, Warren Hearnes, Joe Maxwell and Maida Coleman is better than anything the imposter has.
Koster has never answered why he voted to kick 100,000 people off health care. Or why he cut a TV add for John Ashcroft. Or why he supported Matt Blunt. Or why he supported George Bush. Ir why he voted for photo id, MOHELA, Blunt’s school funding formula, or banning the teaching of sex ed in the public schools. Why did he grovel for Farm Bureau’s support by handling the bill to take away local’s ability to regulate CAFO’s. Or why he laundered money through the Economic Growth Council. Koster is a fraud.
There is a reason Jeff is leading in the polls despite all Koster’s phony money. He is a real democrat. He worked in the ag’s office. He was democratic leader.
By the way I am not a Harris campaign worker, his brother, or the other posters you mention. I am someone who knows that Koster is a loser and that if he wins the primary democrats will pay.
So, Matt Koster from Alpharetta, Georgia, I make this promise again. If you agree to donate the max to Jeff I will bet you the max to the imposter that when I reveal myself I neither a Harris campaign worker or his brother or any other relative.
So put up or shut up.
By the way, Koster keeps saying the ethics commission said his money laundering scheme was okay. Tell us all who over there said it and when they said. And if you do I will shut up about that.
Jeff Harris has a great agenda to be a great attorney general. He has more than twenty proposals for what he will do when he is AG. that is more than all the candidates combined. He is astrong candidate across the state. He also has support from all democratic interests groups.
