Nixon is up with his first campaign ad
Attorney General Jay Nixon, the presumptive Democratic nominee for governor, is running his first ad, a bio piece meant to introduce voters to Nixon’s roots in DeSoto. A key point made in the ad: Nixon is an MU grad and his kids are going there, too.
But the ad raises one interesting question of strategy. Throughout the ad, Nixon is shown driving throughout his hometown. One of the few big hits Nixon has taken in the campaign is his improper use of a state vehicle on the campaign trail. Early in the campaign, Nixon used his state vehicle and even defended the use of it after being criticized for it. Eventually Nixon stopped the practice, reimbursed the state, and after Auditor Susan Montee checked the figures, reimbursed the state a second time for additional costs.
Nixon spokesman Oren Shur assures me the car in the ad is not a state vehicle.

Jay Nixon took the BCBS settlement cash and put it in the Missouri Foundation for Health, which he has used to fund liberal activist groups. He appointed an “independent commission” to investigate Governor Blunt in the middle of a political campaign, for doing something which Nixon himself does. He took laundered campaign money from Ameren in the middle of negotiating a settlement of criminal charges against them.
Nixon is the dirtiest candidate the Democrats could come up with. His campaign slogan should be “I am not a crook.” I can’t wait until Kenny Hulshoff starts pounding on him. Maybe Nixon will end up in prison like Bill Webster.
