“State Rep. Sam Page, D-Creve Coeur and a candididat for lieutenant governor, will hold campaign events Monday in Hannibal and Columbia.

He’s to be accompanied by two of the three living former Democratic lieutenant governors. All three have endorsed Page, which is not unexpected since he has no serious opposition in the Aug. 5 primary.

They are:

– Kenneth Rothman (lieutenant governor from 1981-1985);

–  Roger B. Wilson (lieutenant governor from 1993-2000; he was elevated to governor on Oct. 16 2000 when Mel Carnahan died in a plane crash);

Joe Maxwell (2000-2004)

All have signed a letter endorsing Page’s bid for the seat. If he wins the primary on Aug. 5, Page is expected to face Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, a Republican.

“Of all the endorsements I’ve received, the endorsement from all the three living former Democratic Lieutenant Governors is the one people find most significant,” Page said in a statement.

“These men have done this job. They understand its responsibilities. I’m grateful for their confidence.”

 Maxwell is accompany Page at the Java Jive Cafe in Hannibal at 10 a.m.  Monday.

At 1:30 p.m. in Columbia, Wilson is to join Page  in Room 125 of Switzler Hall on the north end of the University of Missouri Francis Quadrangle.

“Sam Page is the outstanding choice in the Democratic Lieutenant Governor primary,” Wilson said.  “His experience in healthcare, seniors issues and veterans care make him the best person for the job.”

Said Maxwell: “Missouri’s seniors need an advocate willing to stand up and fight for them. Sam Page will be the type of lieutenant governor they deserve.”

Said Rothman: “Sam Page’s experience and record make him the best choice for the August 5 Democratic Lieutenant Governor primary.”

This clearly shows the Democratic party’s high level of concern about Michael E. Carter, the actual leading candidate for the Democratic spot of Missouri’s Lieutenant Governor.

Our internal polling (statistically challengable)has shown Michael Carter’s name recognition to be consistently higher than all other primary candidates for Lieutenant Governor and we can now see that the oppostion must be privy to the same results.

Otherwise, there would be absolutely no reason for such a concentrated endoresement before August 5th.

If this guy Carter is so great, how come they’re endorsing Page? These three know the job of the lieutenant governor and their endorsement means something. I note that the only person touting Carter on this board is a guy named Carter. Well, that’s two votes for Carter, including the candidate. If Page only gets the three x lieutenant govs and himself, he already beats Carter 2-to-1.
