Roberts Jr. goes negative, irks incumbent Storch
Mike Roberts Jr. may not have the support of party leaders, but that has not stopped him from going all out to unseat incumbent State Rep. Rachel Storch in next month’s Democratic primary.
Roberts — who is using much of his own money for campaign funding — has sent out a series of mailers that Storch claims are misleading.
In one piece, Roberts says Storch “voted against state healthcare programs while receiving health insurance paid for by you.” Storch actually voted against legislation that contained the Medicaid cuts opposed by members of her party.
For instance, one vote cited by Roberts in the piece is an appropriations bill that every single state representative from the city – Tom Villa, Jamila Nasheed, Rodney Hubbard, Connie Johnson, Robin Wright-Jones, Mike Daus, Jeanette Mott Oxford, T.D. El-Amin and Michele Kratky — also voted against.
Roberts is framing the fight as a proxy battle between presidential rivals. Another piece sent to voters features a picture of Roberts with Barack Obama. ![]()
Storch was the state director for Hillary Clinton’s campaign, though, in a show of party unity, she introduced Obama at a fundraiser he had here after shoring up the nomination.
As Jo Mannies reported last month, Missouri Democratic Party chairman John Temporiti, wary of a contentious primary at a time when Democrats are focused on regaining control in Jefferson City and the White House, urged Roberts to drop out of the race.
Roberts rejected the entreaty, and, since then, has intensified his pursuit of Stroch’s seat, which includes the area around Forest Park and some of University City.
If nothing else, Roberts has shown that he is not afraid to buck party orthodoxy — and not one to go quietly.

Obama should have told the punk to not run. Asking Temporiti to do it was a waste. This kid is a punk.
It seems to me that you forgot to say that Mr. Roberts is also not afraid to lie about his opponent.
Rachel Storch is a great leader and an even better person. For Mr. Roberts to attack her shows his complete lack of class.
When you have nothing else to run on attack. What a shame he coulda been somebody someday. Now he’s just another liar.
Who is John Temporiti to ask anyone to ‘not run’ for a political office? Last time I looked this is still America and anyone can run for any office they want, they shouldn’t have to bow down to Temporiti’s and kiss his ring. Makes me want to send Mike Roberts a check for his campaign.
Funny how they eat their own.
You know amazed I’ve been thinking the same thing about Steelman and Hulshoff. “funny how they eat their own”
who in the republican party told Lt. Gov Kinder to step down and not run for Gov? Oh and if he’s good enough for Lt. Gov. why isn’t he good enough to run for Gov?
Though I don’t live in Dist. 64, I do work there and was dissappointed to see such flat-out lying to mis lead voters. It’s a shame that such a qualified representative, Rachel Storch, has to waste her time and contributions from her many supporters on Mike Roberts.
a pretty-boy thug in a suit.
temporiti didn’t and doesn’t have much to offer roberts, so the challenge stood. and why not? incumbency does not mean coronation. either storch is able to handle the little that roberts has thrown her way or she isn’t the rising star that democrats make her out to be.
this is more coverage than he deserves…
