The two St. Louis Democratic legislators battling for the 5th District state Senate seat in the Aug. 5 primary – state Reps. Robin Wright-Jones and Rodney Hubbard — each rolled out some additional endorsements today.

Wright-Jones announced that NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, an abortion-rights group,  was in her camp.

“Now that NARAL PAC has voted to endorse my candidacy, my campaign has received the support of the vast majority of organized labor, women’s groups, the state’s largest moderate and low income community group, and the state’s largest LGBT rights organization. These groups make up the backbone of Democratic politics and I am delighted that St. Louis’ progressive forces have decided to present a united front, against Rep. Hubbard’s campaign,” Said Wright-Jones.

Meanwhile, Hubbard announced that he was endorsed Tuesday night by the 28th Ward Democrats.

In a jab at his rival, Hubbard said that he had three times as many ward endorsements.

“I’ve represented part of the 28th Ward in the state Legislature for six years and understand its progressive values, especially when it comes to education reform,” said Hubbard. “I have worked closely with Alderwoman Lyda Krewson, Committeeman Joe Keaveny, and Committeewoman Betul Ozmat over the years and am proud to have their support.”

Hubbard said he has the support of 13 ward organizations and unified ward committees (including his opponent’s own ward), versus Wright-Jones’ four.

It’s funny that Rodney is starting to call himself progressive, after most of the progressives have already endorsed Robin. Playing catch up?

Great call, NARAL! Robin’s record on choice issues is the real deal. We’ll all be lucky to have an advocate like her in the Senate.

Rodney must be confused, he used the word progressive. I’m sure he meant conservative.

Rodney is getting support from individuals in powerful positions. Robin is getting organizational support from groups that can put feet on the ground. It is in interesting race to watch. For me, Go Robin!

Rodney has also been endorsed by the Teamsters, the Laborers, the Carpenters, SEIU Local 2000, 13 ward organizations, and nearly every citywide elected official.

Robin has no money, is LAZY, has a communist (Glenn something) and a convict (John Bowman) running her campaign, and can’t even win the support of her home ward which she’s represented for 8 YEARS!!!

Since Robin has a convicted Felon John Bowman working for her maybe she should ask him to steal money from a bank so her campaign actually can have some money. Are you kidding me. Why would any person with a brain vote for someone who has hired a convicted felon (a theif) to run her campaign. Maybe Robin plans on “stealing” the election.

If these are our choices, then Robin Wright Jones over Rodney Lieberman!

Let’s get real about this. In Wright-Jones last 8 years, what legislation has she sponsored that actually made it to the House floor? It’s public record that not one of her bills ever made it out of committee! So she has a progressive voting record. So what? That just means that she showed up and voted the way she was told to vote. Anyone can lazily walk to the floor and push a button or raise their hand. Hubbard is the only candidate we have for REAL PROGRESS!!

I concur and really like Nonchalant. We must move past electing placeholders, and elect people who have the courage to think outside the box, take a position, and win or lose on your conviction. Ms. Jones claims to be progressive, but what has she progressed in terms of the conditions of our community. What should qualify a candidate in terms of a progressive label is the condition of their community and what they’ve put forth in terms of changing it. In this case, the “progressive” candidate and those organizations who fancy themselves as such, should be more aptly referred to as “depressives” because that’s where their leaderships has landed their community. I support Rodney Hubbard, and wish Robin the best in her future endeavors, but we can’t reward eight years of doing nothing, with another eight years of nothing!
