Biden: A man of many words (mostly)
DENVER _ Talking about Joe Biden over Sunday morning breakfast, some Democrat delegates were callling him loquacious, others used the word verbose. Whatever, the guy can flat talk.
I recall committing the cardinal sin of young reporters while riding between Iowa towns with Biden in his first presidential quest in 1988: I ran out of questions.
I’m not the first, surely. My memory is foggy but it may be true that Biden’s words filled up an entire notebook before my tape recorder died and my pens were sapped of ink. I recall stumbling out of the van brushing adjectives off my sweater.
He makes many good points and a great deal of sense, mostly. But he commits verbal blunders on occasion, which is why the mischievous Republican National Committee quickly put up its Biden Gaffe Clock catching the Delaware senator calling the Democrats’ nominee-in-waiting “Barack America.”
Biden’s reputation preceded his veep selection, of course. He knows himself, which showed in a Democratic candidate debate in South Carolina last spring.
Moderator Brian Williams of NBC recalled an LA Times editorial noting Biden’s “uncontrolled verbosity” and asked him, essentially, if he would have the discipline to keep his yap shut when need be.
“Yes,” Biden said.
The audience waited for Biden to explain how, when, where and why he would shut up. But somehow, yes was all he said, cracking up folks in the know.

Well, Dooley said that he’s full of energy, so that’s all I need to know. America is in the midst of an energy crisis, and if we can tap Senator Biden instead of hurting all those bears in Alaska, that’s a good deal for all of us.
This is the wrinkly, old white-haired guy for change we’ve been waiting for.

“I mean, you’ve got the first sort of African American, who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean that’s story-book, man.” -Joe Biden, 01/31/07 - On B. Hussein Obama
The uniter refused to even vent Hillary. The public overwhelming supported Hillary and not Joe Biden. I guess our vote just doesn’t count to the Democrats. Women votes don’t matter.
Where oh where is the use of the word “gravitas” as used constantly when Bush “picked” Cheney. This is no different, yet the word seems to have slipped off the radar. I wonder why? This is exactly like Bush-Cheney - an elder statesman without a state.
Ok that was FUNNY “brushing adjectives off my sweater”. But the idea that we need someone less capable at using the english language is rediculous. Bush was that cute-bumbling guy, and he has been a nightmare for the economy, foreign policy, energy (unless you ARE an energy company).
So while its fun to take pot-shots, I’ll take the smart guy instead if the guy who divorced his wife when she got injured and was no longer a swim-suit model so he could marry his mistress heiress with millions.
Bobz - Biden is a mere 65 —
McCain is 71, thats like paper-thin wrinkly skin get me a blanket
old.
Marie - I believe you meant “vet” Hillary, but maybe if she was vented that might have helped her campaign. I thought Nick would have used that one. there you go… a gift.
This is funny:

Bill, I was curious why in your piece in the P-D this morning that you didn’t mention that the two will not be together again until the convention.
Johnboy- here’s the correction:
This is the wrinkly, old white-haired guy … with hair plugs that’s been marinating in the Senate for 35 years … for change we’ve been waiting for.

If these few comments are any indication of the quality of debate on the other side of this partnership, then the election is over, unless of course the American public refuses to acknowledge facts and make the same mistake they did four years ago. But then again, it has been said that you can fool all of the people some of the time, especially when you lie, distort, and misrepresent. Mabe this will be one of those “some of the time” periods.
