Calling the alleged actions of Rep. Scott Muschany, R-Frontenac, “reprehensible,” Gov. Matt Blunt and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder issued separate statements today calling for Muschany to resign his seat in the House.

Muschany was indicted yesterday by a Cole County grand jury on a felony charge of “deviate sexual assault.” If convicted he could face up to 7 years in prison. Muchany is suspected of assaulting the 14-year-old daughter of a former House employee. Muschany and the victim’s mother were involved romantically.

“I was extremely troubled to learn that Rep. Scott Muschany is facing felony charges for sexual assault of a minor. This alleged misconduct is reprehensible and cannot and will not be tolerated,” said Kinder in an e-mailed statement. “Today, I call on my fellow Republican leaders to join me in calling for Rep. Muschany’s immediate resignation from the Missouri House.”

Blunt also called on Muschany to resign, if the charges against him prove true.

Muschany’s lawyer told the Post-Dispatch yesterday that the allegations are “false.”

I don’t care if it’s a Republican or Democrat…. politicians are as a majority pretty much scum and ALL think they are above the law.

To the blog comment regarding “…children being led to say things that are not true,” it is worth noting that even then it would be due to “an ex-lover’s revenge.”

While he has not been convicted, his decision not to run (which followed shortly on the heels of the incident) should have been taken as a self-indictment.

Governor Blunt should not be too quick to throw stones, however. He may need a friend when his own indictments come down.

I’m a liberal democrat evangelical Christian (yes, there are some of us who believe in God and try to emulate the life of Jesus), and I like Zuno am repulsed and disgusted by those who preach on Sunday and sin from Monday through Saturday. This is what the Republican party gets for listening to the atheist Karl Rove on how to “use” the Christian Right for their own ill-gotten gains.

This should not be a political party bashing session. This man has a sexual addiction like all Child Sex Offenders. They come form all walks of life. This man just lives 2 lives, obviously He will mostlikely get out of this. Prosecuters WILL NOT touch him if there is no REAL evidence to back this story. Prosecutors want a witness, dna, or something that is very substatial. Not a her word against his… The prosecuters will not pursue this case with Judge or jury in the LOCAL area is there is NO evidence. They will let this man go back to the street. Even if they think, he is guilty. Prosecuters are like politicians..It’s all about a scoreboard of convictions, and they are selective about the ones that they will take. if it is an easy case with evidence, they’ll work at a prosecution. otherwise, OUR KIDS go w/o justice. Guilty, or not.

If this guy is guilty then put him in jail until he rots. Why do people want to bring politics into this is beyond me. Why does it matter what party he’s with, how does that make any difference. A child may be effected by this man, not which party he belongs to. I believe people that what to blame a political party have nothing better to do. My prayers are with that child. When will people realize it starts with all of us? We choose who to elect but we don’t want to hold anybody accountable because most of us practice hear say politics.

Sheesh, you people ever heard of innocence until proven guilty?

If he is convicted, I agree he should be tarred and feathered, and sent away for a long long long time if not worse.

If he is shown to be innocent, the scums who have worked to sabotage a fine man should be made to pay!

I pray that the light shine on all these perverts every where including those in authority who sit as judges, attorneys and other court officials, politicians and businessmen, those posing as respectable citizens, I pray them out of hiding. There are many, many, many.

There are cases where judges and GAL’s here in St. Louis County Family Court have handed children over to known convicted child sexual abusers.

I pray for all the poor troubled foster children who have been placed in the homes of perverts whose cries go ignored as those of disturbed troubled teens and children, may their cries be heard and their abusers uncovered.

Seven years, this is the version of the Jessica law that yours truly, Gov. Matt Blunt accepted. Not the 25 year minimum for such crimes against a child. This man, if the charges are true deserves the 25 years. Don’t think for one second that this man has not sexually abused foster children if these charges are indeed true.

What are you talking about when you say “holier than thou” Republican’s? Because somebody is for law and order you would label them this way? If you want to condemn this man then do it for what he did (at this point allegedly).

BTW, there have been plenty of Democrat’s who have been involved in heinous acts.

I see that you republicans don’t like getting kicked while your down, neither do we. How does it feel? I’m a very hard shell democrat that has seen my choice of political party smeared and it makes me very upset to see this happen so I am taking advantage of my turn. It’s your turn in the barrel now live with it.

D. Walker I believe, we need to get an organization in here to advocate for these children who make these claims. There is a 96% chance, she is telling the truth.. Politics is a BAD WORD in these cases. I have about as much respect for politicians as I do these WORTHLESS local prosecutors. The want convictions to preserve their BAD NAMES at election time. They DO NOT care about your children. Jefferson County Mo local paper did a HUGE article on these so-called prosecuters. Even if they feel, these scums are guilty, they will NOT pursue them if they can’t get any points out of it, fearing a jury trial will exonerate these twisted pieces of trash. Prosecuters will not try to convict any cases that may be of a challenge to them. I BET this guy will go free unless, this poor child can collect solid evidence against him. These election commercials that these candidates play to get elected, makes me sick! They could careless about your elderly parents that are victimized, or your child that was sexually molested. They’re out for themselves, and their political scoreboard. It’s a COMPLETE outrage
