DENVER — U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s career as a super delegate was conflicted.
During the primary, he pledged his support to Hillary Clinton, who he knew from his days as mayor of Kansas City.
But, as a pastor involved in the fight for civil rights, his heart reached for Barack Obama.
Now, with the nomination sewn up, Cleaver jettisoned those internal conflicts and brought a preacher’s zeal to this morning’s delegation breakfast.
Cleaver told the crowd about a time he was in a diner and asked for more sugar in his iced tea.
No, the waitress replied.
Take what you have already, Cleaver was told, and stir it up.
Cleaver offered the same advice today to Missouri Democrats.
