Delegate Spotlight: Ed Geppert
Throughout the Democratic and Republican conventions, we’ll be providing short profiles of local delegates.
Here is another “Delegate Spotlight.”
Name: Ed Geppert
Age: 60
Hometown: Belleville
Political experience: President of the Illinois Federation of Teachers since 2007; taught social science at Cahokia High School; former member, Illinois State Board of Education.
Road to convention: The state teachers union’s early support for Barack Obama — dating back to his time as a state senator — helped get Geppert a seat on the Democratic Party’s platform committee, which sets the party’s national agenda.
Highlights so far: Joining three Democratic women governors — Janet Napolitano of Arizona, Ruth Ann Minner of Delaware, Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas — at an event honoring them. The morning Illinois caucus meetings led by Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.
Looking forward to: Obama’s acceptance speech Thursday. “Hardest ticket in the world to get hold of, and going to be quite a time.”

Ed, the state of education in America is miserable thanks to the NEA and various teachers unions. Since the 1970’s, your groups have focused on whole language, outcome based education, and removing God and morals from the classroom with catastrophic results.
It’s ironic that your candidate did not go to a public school in Hawaii. I bet he doesn’t send his kids to public schools either.
