Dems, GOP already working to heal primary wounds

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Even before the results are in, party leaders have already begun to focus on restoring party unity after bitter primary contests on both sides.

The Democrats will let the winners sleep off their election night haze, but want them assembled Thursday morning at a “United for Change” rally in front of the Harry Truman statue in Independence.

Republicans tapped Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder – facing only marginal opposition in today’s primary — to narrate a maudlin, er, sincere video praising “the family that is” the Republican party.

Democrats will heal a lot faster if we don’t have to swallow Chris Koster as our candidate for attorney general. If Koster wins, I know I won’t be the only Democrat to proudly cast my vote for Michael Gibbons.

jake, please explain to me the reason it is that you report the Democrats version of unity (their rally) without injecting an opinion by way of an adjective, but you seem alright with adding in the “maudlin” which means “sappy” to the Republican’s version. Both parties seem to be trying to do the same thing but you’ve tainted one and not the other. I would argue both are put-ons, but then either report it as both or niether.

I won’t vote for Koster either.

Kinder says that cause isn’t about me but isn’t the vec
ideo all about him.

I am no fan of Peter Kinder or Republicans, especially. I am a sometime fan of Jake’s postings, which occasionally are clever. Not this one.

How about letting the viewer decide what adjective to apply?

I have to agree that the use of “maudlin” lends an unnecessary sneer - unless you’re trying to impress a die-hard Democratic chick who owns a thesaurus. This just gives critics of the P-D’s fairness another bit of ammunition.

If Jake really wanted to impress liberal chicks, he’d be a man of snappy dress and witty banter like Bill McClellan. Dissing Democrats in this blog won’t get him any action.
