Did Hillary apply enough salve to these wounds?

DENVER — I don’t know.

I’ve been stunned here in Denver at the depth of sentiments among Hillary Clinton’s backers, particularly older women. They truly feel they’ve been violated by the Obama campaign’s lack of attention since the primaries concluded.

Obama came of age politically in Chicago, where the governing mindset for decades has been “Reward your friends, punish your enemies.” But you have to wonder how a cadre of bright tacticians who figured out how to take an unknown talent almost to the top could have been so tone-deaf to the needs of the vanquished.

There’s too much hubris here. Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s close ally, acknowledged at breakfast with us yesterday that no, Obama hasn’t spoken to Bill Clinton recently.

Terry McAuliffe, Clinton’s chief fundraiser and the former Democratic Party chair, let it be known that he was leaving town before Obama’s acceptance speech.

CNN viewers heard Clinton pal James Carville rail on about how bad the Obama-planned convention had begun.

I counted a dozen references by Clinton to Obama and I thought that all in all, it was a quite strong speech from a politician who didn’t start out as a gifted speaker.

But they were just words.

“I want you to think about your children and grandchildren come election day,” she said, a sensible appeal to those with hurt feelings and bruised egos.

But she probably shouldn’t have used the phrases “chasm too deep” and “never back down” in the same sentence, especially one that ended a speech that looms important for her party in November.

I look forward to coverage of the die-hard Ron Paul supporters at the Republican National Convention..

That’s interesting, reward your friends and punish your enemies. Why would Hillary supporters think that someone who considers us his enemy should get our vote? He doesn’t win without us. Plain and simple.
