Eddie Hasan, key political player, admits tax fraud
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
This just in: Eddie Hasan, a well-known figure in St. Louis politics, plead guilty in federal court today for filing a false tax report.
He admitted not paying taxes on money he earned from a consulting contract with St. Louis Public Schools, as well as other income.
The charges, publicly at least, were unexpected: There were no reports that Hasan was under investigation.
Hasan runs MoKan, which helps construction contractors with minority contracts. He is also the publisher of the St. Louis Argus newspaper and father of former State Rep. Yaphett El-Amin, whose husband, T.D. El-Amin, currently holds her old seat.

Oops!!
Other income? You mean like money intended for the Construction Prep Center in which Eric Vickers just stated in Monday’s PD what a fine job the Met center is doing in getting the needed funding after blocking highway 40 fifteen years ago? Eddie has been involved with the CPC since it’s inception. That’s one of Eddie’s money pits too. Vickers and Hasan claim to do everything possible to help minorities get into the “white racists labor unions”…..Everything except provided the needed funding to help minorities attain the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to make the union apprenticeship programs.
What else did you steal, Eddie?
Since the party isnt listed, I assume Mr Hasan is a democrat?
the P-D story online fails to mention that he is/ Argus publisher.
Hasan is also a friend of Mayor Slay’s and directed his newspaper to stand up for mayor instead of Sherman George.
and this has been known to be about to happen for weeks in many circles. this is why he stepped down as head of MOKAN a couple of weeks ago, and his daughter has taken over.
by the way, the construction prep center actually is a worthwhile program which is monitored by city, St. Louis County and state of Missouri.
How very interesting that it took this long to catch him. Hmmmmm…
Will Vickers be next?
Yet another Democrat caught doing ill. Hardly news is it?
The PD ‘forgetting’ to list the party of a Democrat that is a “key political player” their words. Hardly news is it?
Anyone want to guess just how far back this story will be buried?
I wont dignify the garbage above by commenting on it. Beneath contempt. Sounds like you’re unhappy with your own lives and kicking others when they’re down you hope will make you feel better about yourself. Good luck with that plan. Rather I’ll say what the message I just left with a mutual friend as I was unable to reach Eddie. Eddie is my brother. We met first 14 years ago when we worked together on Eric’s congressional campaign (I just told Eric that if I win my race it was with lessons on learned from him in that campaign.) I love him, nothing changes that, and we’re friends and brothers forever. Nothing changes that. I’ll add too, that everyone is human. No one is perfect. I try not to judge others, but when I do it usually says more about me than about them. No one should condone what he did, whether we know the circumstances or not. But no one’s life should be judged by one bad moment. I’ve never known Eddie to be anything but smart, kind, and honorable, and my friend. And my message said that if I ever can do anything for him, I will. That goes for all my other friends too. And even for those who arent. You treat people like you’d like to be treated. Pretty much should be all of our first rule of life.
I wonder how unusual federal indictment is for leaving something off tax return. Not saying it shouldnt be serious. Just thinking that more usually fine and penalties more common? Maybe not if blatant. And I didnt know he had a consulting contract with the schools. Without criticizing or judging on that without knowledge of the facts, I wonder what the back story is on that. I bet from the appointed schoolboard, but they’ve only been there a year or so, so maybe not? Wonder what that was about. Maybe some newspaper should write about it? And if he’s close to Slay, that would make him a Republican wouldnt it? Or urban republican, if you prefer.
And it’s possible that Yahphett is misspelled; of course, anything is possible.
Bill Haas…Eddie Hasan pleaded guilty to filing a false tax return. This isn’t some insignificant accounting errror. The man doesn’t pay his taxes. That makes him a fraud. Individuals like Hasan don’t just stop with false tax returns…They’re usually con-men and shake-down artists. They’re called hustlers. How many local businesses and labor unions were asked to financially help with minority inclusion efforts… and what would be the consequences if they refused? Claims would be made about the racial divided in St. Louis, or construction sites would be picketed…or highways shut down while Eddie and Eric turned the event into a media circus….All under the extorted guise of helping minorities attain educational opportunities and construction jobs….
It’s about money Bill. It always has been.
What is even more interesting than Hasan’s guilty plea is that he also was apparently getting rich off this minority contracting gig he’s got going. He’s accused of not paying taxes on income amounting to nearly $100,000 a year. One may assume that he has other income on which he was paying taxes.
Now we know what the race card is worth in St. Louis.
Bill, you are a sweet man. Sappy, but sweet. If you are Hassan’s “brother” then you have an evil twin. You are out for good, Hasan is out for himself. He has a long record as a race-baiting shakedown artist. Ask any major contractor and they will tell you about what happens when Eddie walks into your office. Sorry Bill, you are a good hearted guy but a bit too trusting. Garrison gets it. Never thought I would say that.
fair enough, those who commented on my comments, and am respectful of your views, but without defending what Eddie did, because we all know you shouldnt do it if you arent prepared to read it in the headlines of the next day’s paper, and as Baretta said, dont do the crime if you cant do the time, there is more than one way to spin what Eddie did, or more than one take on it, and you can be brothers with someone without always approving of how they act; I dont expect my friends to always approve of how I act (tho it is nice when they do); and I dont accept that because you did one thing wrong, everything you do is for the money; I’ve known Eddie for 15 years; I know he’s not like that; he’s a good and caring person who did something selfish and wrong, and ultimately foolish; and I say those things trying not to judge; I’m sure he’d admit that he shouldnt have done it, but wont defend him or his actions; and I will say what I often do, that I’d rather live my life being too trusting than not trusting enough; but I never trust anyone with something I cant afford or arent prepared to lose, if I have a choice.
ps anyone who’s judging Eddie, what he did is nothing compared to the Enron people who ruined people’s lives; so I expect you to judge them worse; the only one Eddie hurt, or the main one, is himself, and his family; and if truth be told, he probably did what he did for his family. that’s not to say he shouldnt be punished, but I hope he gets mercy on the sentence within permissable guidelines and precedence.
Funny how the word “Democrat” appears no where in this story. Typical of the non-existent journalistic ethics of P-D reporters.
Bill - I was unaware you were bi-racial. I was wondering what your comments were on Edwards and his love child. Funny how the mainstream media refuses to comment on that topic. Apparently there is no father listed on the child’s birth certificate. I wonder how she did that alone.
Bill, you are defending the indefensible.
Dude’s a crook.
hmm…one name that hasn’t been brought up is John Steffen, who is Eddie’s buddy. Several media outlets reported that Steffen was one of Hasan’s backers when Hasan bought the St. Louis Argus from the Mitchell family. Now why would Steffen sink 10s of thousands of dollars into the Argus. He’s a developer…you would think it would make more sense for him to give money to Mokan. Unless? Wait, what? Somethin’ ain’t right there! As my grandma always said, what goes around comes around. You reap what you sow.
I am so glad that the black community see the real Eddie Hassan. He is a crook and a shake-down artist. He shakes down all Minority Contractors for jobs, MBE/DBE/WBE certifications,he makes money using the community’s familes and their children, he involved in multiple 501 C3 scams, he hunts after our young female babies after 5:00pm on the city’s (west side), He is a replublicrat, and he is apart of a click of people. This bothers me because we have young men and women killing each other due to housing, employment, and false leadership. So, yes to me, in our community, he is just as bad as ENRON. Don’t think its over yet, his daughter, and about 10 others are still out here to continue his legecy!
