Gibbons to address St. Charles voters, with help of Young Repubs
Special to the Post-Dispatch
State Sen. Mike Gibbons, R-Kirkwood and the GOP candidate for attorney general, will be speaking to anyone who shows up Thursday evening at Java G’s Coffee House, located at 2031 Old Hwy 94Sin St. Charles.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and he’s to speak at 7 p.m. The event is free, open to the public and hosted by the St. Charles Young Republican Club.

Most Democrats are planning on standing down in the general election instead of voting for Chris Koster. Democrats are pretty upset that a little known Republican supported wholeheartedly by Senator Jeff “Judas” Smith, has won the nomination.
Senator Jeff Smith is considered the worst traitor/Democratic Senator in the history of the Missouri Legislature by most of his colleagues.
Mike Gibbons will be the next Attorney General for the State of Missouri, unless he does something really bad. As of today, he has not supported a Democrat turning coat to the Republican party, but he has to stay away from Senator Jeff Smith and his philosophy!
Can Mr. Smith support Democrats in the future, and then think about going to Washington?
Rumors are swirling that Rep. Rodney Hubbard will challenge Ald. April Ford-Griffin in March of 2009. The early polls show that Rep. Rodney Hubbard will win by a landslide, and that the 5th Ward will become Hubbardville.
Insiders say that Ald. April Ford-Griffin doesn’t feel good about the outcome of this match-up and has asked Ald. Lewis Reed for help, but Ald. Lewis Reed has already promised his support to Hubbard.
In addition to Ald. Reed, Hubbard has garnered the support of Lic. Collector Mike McMillan for the 5th Ward Aldermanic seat and Hubbard will support Mike McMillan for Mayor.
McMillan has commitments up and above $2.5 million dollars for his Mayoral run, and plans to raise close to $3.5 million dollars for this election in March of 2009.
Rumors have it that Mayor Slay will go very negative against McMillan, but early polls show Mayor Slay losing by 30%. These polls were secretly conducted and paid for during the most recent election, while everyone was watching the front door.
McMillan is expected to overcome these false very negative personal attacks against him to become the next Mayor, and thus far he has already quietly secured the endorsement of 19 of the 28 wards in the City of St. Louis?
Michael Gibbons shouldn’t stand a chance against Koster, but when voters start sticking by party line rather than who’s best for the job, we all lose. Koster is so much of a middle of the road candidate, it’s almost painful… but he’s exactly what Missouri needs. When you get away from the political insiders, activists, and bloggers, you get to the Missouri voter who don’t care about what the pundits say. Koster is what was many considered in Jeff City as the good type of Republican, conservative in nature but wasn’t a one issue person (thanks MRL), he was a common sense, what’s best for the people, pro-union voter. Extremely partisans make bad policy, I don’t care who you are (see Jane Cunningham). The Republicans are salivating at the chance that these “democrats” won’t vote for Koster and stay home, because they know that it’s the only chance they have to win the A.G. office. The only way they win is if the base doesn’t support him, because he will have more support from the moderate voters than probably any A.G. candidate in history, since Gibbons is anything but. But go ahead, stay home. I’m pretty sure that Koster won’t need you to vote for him to win anyways. But remember, you’re selling out to corporations that already control Blunt, now they won’t have to worry about the A.G. getting in the way of their business. Being a moderate candidate is only bad to those who are on both far sides of the political spectrum.
No need for sour grapes. Even if you don’t agree with the way he switched parties, or you try to argue the “stalking horse”, you have to ask yourself would you rather have a moderate, or an extreme Republican?
Jeff and Margaret ran a questionable campaign if best. Jeff got stomped, which I don’t think anybody really saw coming. Margaret did much better than many would like to give her credit for. She’s not going to win the recount, and if she does, it’ll be too late to mount a campaign against Gibbons. If Koster’s “stalking horse” was actually his, why wouldn’t those voters have just voted for him? If they had, then he really would have blown everybody else out of the water. And if you want to argue that they were just voting for a woman on the ballot, then Margaret really ran an absolutely terrible campaign. It’s time to get over the primary and focus on the future for Missouri.
I think Koster has a 70% chance because there are alot of people mad at gibbons for being two sided in the capitol;(
Leadership is about courage and it took courage for Sen. Koster to make the switch to the Democratic party. I look forward to having someone as AG that has the courage to do the right thing and the leadership to actually do it because it’s the right thing to do.
When Sen. Gibbons was the chair of the Ways and Means committee he would not let legislation out of his committee that would have given a tax break on every vehicle manufactured and sold in the state of Missouri.
If a Missourian wanted to purchase a Ford F150 made in Kansas City or a Chrysler Town and Country mini-van made in Fenton they would not have had to pay any sales tax on it. The legislation paassed the Missouri House 152 for and only 1 against. This legislation would have possibly saved jobs as well as made Missouri more attractive to an auto manufacturer that wanted to re-locate to the midwest because of the savings on vehicles made here in Missouri.
Sen Gibbons has two auto assembly plants in his district for now. On October 31st the mini-van plant will be idled and the truck plant will lose one shift. This adds up to more than 2,400 auto workers losing their jobs. I would speculate that Sen. Koster has just picked up not only the 2,400 members but their families as well.
Go Koster GO!
I love Chris Koster, not only is he cute, but he’s smart! I’m pro-choice, anti-gun, and as a homosexual, it’s refreshing to see not everyone is as closed minded as Mike Gibbons.
Tubbie, not everyone shares your and Chris Koster’s pro-homosexual agenda. And for that matter, I’m not pro-choice, anti-gun, or anything else you and Chris Koster stand for. That’s why I’ll vote for the true Republican in this race.
Being pro-choice and gay are good reasons NOT to like Koster. Look at his voting record. He doesn’t support either of those issues.
And his party switch wasn’t brave in the least. It was opportunist in the extreme. He switched because rumor was that Catherine Hanaway (former speaker of the Missouri House) was going to run on the Republican side, and he was afraid to run against her.
He’s an opportunistic sleaze, and he will lose because the Democratic base is not with him.
Be CERTAIN to ask Mr. Gibbons if he will have the interests of those who MAY elect him in mind - just like he decided he knew better than the 70%+ of the voters in his district who voted against the conceal-carry issue in the referendum a few years ago…
And - will he carry out defenses of Missouri’s laws which may be repugnant to him personally (and his party), as Mr. Nixon - and various predecessors - have done? After all, isn’t the job of the Attorney General to do just that - and not be an “activist AG,” as so many Reps have castigated the judiciary for similar “offenses?”
