If you’re planning to make the 100-mile trek tomorrow to Springfield, Ill. to see Barack Obama and his yet unnamed running mate, brace for long lines and bad weather, the local paper reports.

“We’re going to be very patient, and we ask that they do the same,” Secret Service supervisor Eric Pingolt tells Springfield’s State Journal-Register. “We’re going to get people into the event, but it’s going to be in a secure manner.”

The public entrance to the Old Capitol site will open at noon, but — although Obama is not expected to speak until at least 2 p.m. — the Secret Service is urging spectators to come as early as 11 a.m.

The speech, the Journal-Register reports, will go on regardless of the weather, despite a forecast that calls for a good chance of rain.

Security will allow individuals to bring in small umbrellas, though large ones with metal tips will not be allowed, according to the Journal-Register. Bottled water may also pose a problem, for the same reason it’s not allowed on airplanes any more.

Here’s Journal-Register reporter Bernard Schoenburg talking more about Obama’s visit.
