Hulshof last-minute rally in South County

U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof held a last minute rally and pizza party with supporters at the South County GOP HQ as part of a whirlwind air tour of the state.

Hulshof was joined by other candidates and was introduced to the crowd of 100 or so clapping fans by state senate candidate (and current state rep) Jim Lembke.

Hulshof spent most of his time talking about the General Election and a possible matchup with Jay Nixon. He said he respected his primary opponent state treasurer Sarah Steelman, but tried to paint himself as the true conservative in the race.

He then rung a number of traditional GOP bells and got applause for all of them: lower taxes, crack down at borders and tight immigration laws, no same sex marriage and more.

“Come November, when we all pull together, after we retire Jay Nixon…” Hulshof said, with a break for applause, “…it’s going to be awesome.”

In the audience were a number of supporters including some extended family. Tom Schaff, a “cousin-in-law” from Sunset Hills, noted Republican scandals and the party’s trouble nationally — including the Tom Delay debacle — and said Hulshof was a new generation who could reclaim the party’s ethics.

“He’s one of the only honest politicians I’ve met,” said Schaff, who was once an intern for U.S. Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D. “There aren’t a lot of those anymore.”

Take a look below. (That’s Schaff, shaking Hulshof’s hand.)

Afterward, Hulshof took a little time to cool off in an air-conditioned office to chat. He offered this final pitch to undecided voters.

Why didn’t Kenny come to North St. Louis county and try to drum up some support from republicans that haven’t fled to those so-called “whiter” pastures of West county and St. Chuck county? I guess that like just about every other politician, especially republican, North County is unimportant and a waste of time, right?

ALL Republicans should pay their taxes, but realize one important fact:

Many of us are not that patient when it comes to justice and morality. The National Gay Tax Protest is growing; the LGBT community WILL NOT WAIT for the country to decide upon our civil rights.

THREE WORDS - GAY TAX PROTEST

Not ONE PENNY until FULL EQUALITY.

Chill out, Didymus. There’s only one of him, and that’s where he ended up. Did NoCo have an event at which he could have come instead?

SoCo is a disrespected area of its own. You should consider it a bit of a coup that a statewide candidate chose SoCo over Lahdue, Frontenac or WestCo.

On the other hand, if Republican pols ignore NoCo, they do so at their peril. An analysis of the 2006 primary campaign for County Exec showed that McNary and Odenwald virtually tied in WestCo and SoCo, where they devoted their resources, and the election ended being decided in NoCo.

Oracle - We’ll know just how important north county is to Republicans tomorrow, when we know how many people pulled a Republican primary ballot. I suspect it won’t be very many. I’m a north county Republican myself, and I wish it wasn’t so … but now I know what Chesterfield Democrats feel like. The problem is, at the rate the St. Louis county Republicans are going, the entire county is going to look like north county, and Dooley will be county executive for life.

Dooley for Life? Knew that he was crooked, but didn’t know that he had been yet convicted for any offense that would give him life in prison. Not surprised, though. He is in a puppet for John Temporiti and the big trash haulers…Dump Dooley!

When he spoke downtown, in the high rise, with the Arch in the background, the fact that he HASN’T been in Missouri was a good thing. He was free of the entanglements of Missouri politics. At ground level, he becomes a lifelong Missourian. I’m bettin’ the nosebleed seats got the truth, and Missouri is gonna get Fed-ed out.
