As we mentioned here a few days ago, Bob Barr, the presidential candidate of the Libertarian Party, is scheduled to be in Maryland Heights on Sunday to attend a fundraising effort for his campaign.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at Syberg’s restaurant; 2430 Old Dorsett Road.

Barr’s campaign sent a media advisory Saturday that contained a few additional details about the event.

Barr, a lawyer, was a Republican U.S. representative from Georgia from 1995 to 2003. His campaign’s media advisory said Barr “is committed to helping elect leaders who will strive for smaller government, lower taxes and abundant individual freedom.”

The Libertarian Party is one of four parties that definitely will have a presidential candidate on the Nov. 4 general election ballot in Missouri. The others are the Republican, Democratic and Constitution parties.

The P-D needs to pay attention to the Libertarians, Green, and Constitutional Parties and Nader this year. In key swing states, such as Missouri, the few percentage points these candidates receive will make a difference. There is plenty of dissatisfaction with the two anointed candidates from the Dems and GOP. The other candidates will give a voice to the disenfranchised. Will the P-D be the news for all people, or just those with 33% of the polled vote?

I am glad that Bob Barr will be on the ballot in Missouri. We need an alternative to Obama and McCain.

I’ve just come from the Bob Barr rally and fundraiser at Syberg’s Restaurant , where introductions of the other Libertarian Party candidates for state-wide and local elections were made: myself, for Governor; Teddy Fleck, for Lt. Governor; Robb Cunningham, for Missouri 1st Congressional District, Kevin Babcock, for Missouri 3rd; and Julie Stone, 69th state legislative district.

Then, Mike Ferguson, who was recently promoted to National Field Director for the Bob Barr ‘08 campaign, gave an introduction to Bob Barr. As Bob entered the room, he was given a standing ovation.

Bob spoke on how and why America needs another choice besides the same old two party system we have now; why ballot access is so important (Libertarians here in Missouri are blessed with continued ballot access, and full support for Primary Elections); why the Saddleback Church situation this weekend violates Federal Election Laws (the McCain/Feingold campaign finance legislation); and a bunch of other topics.

Questions were taken from some of the attendees there.

Money was raised. St. Louis beat out Chicago… go us!!

The problem is that the Post-Dispatch is a Democratic Party Mouthpiece. They will only back a Democratic Party candidate. I am surprised that they even mentioned that Bob Barr was coming to town, I am sorry I missed it. I will be voting for him in the main election in November.
