O’Fallon crowd cheers McCain, Palin
O’FALLON — John McCain presented his new vice-presidential running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, to thousands of cheering Missouri supporters at a sun-drenched Sunday afternoon rally at the home of St. Charles County’s minor league baseball team.
“I have found the right partner,” the Arizona senator said at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. “She’s exactly who I need. She’s exactly what the country needs to fight the same old Washington politics.
Many in the crowd, which the campaign estimated at 23,000, seemed to agree, breaking out at one point in a chant of “Sar-uh, Sar-uh.”
McCain recounted Palin’s election as governor in 2006 and how she took on a “corrupt” political culture in her home state that had become a national disgrace. He also pointed out that Palin had vetoed “one big pork-barrel bill after another.”
“If you’re sick and tired of the way Washington operates, you need to be patient,” McCain said. “Change is coming, change is coming, change is coming.”
Palin also spoke about her record and said she had fought special interests, lobbyists, oil companies and “the good-old boy network.”
She also said she had opposed the often-criticized “bridge to nowhere” that an Alaskan in Congress had pushed for in an appropriations bill.Ron Bauwens, 58, a retired teacher from Weldon Spring, said he was impressed with McCain’s new running mate.
“The biggest thing I got out of that was Sarah. I think she can really pull it in for him.”"She’s going to be a bulldog.”
Some Democrats have attacked Palin’s experience. But Kathy Pfeffer, 56, of Fenton, said was impressed with her record of ethics reform and reducing government spending.
“She’s proven she can do it just as good as a man, if not better,” she said.

Yeah parothead, we’re scared alright, scared we might lose our jobs, our houses, our lives to terrorists(FAKE WARS!! You should be scared to get your a** blown off for GW and Cheyneys legacy-oil for money.). Scared we might get another election stole by Jeb Bush and his Republican hit squads in Florida. YOUR D*** RIGHT I’M SCARED!!!!!!!!
Johnh is officially dismissed, all further comments by him *IGNORED*!!!!!!!
Richard,
You mean like using the term “dumba#@ republicans”?!? Like Dean Martin said, “Have another drink, pallie. You’ll be okay.” No offense to your buddy, D Walker. Wise up.
Mark, still waiting for any facts. (You mean like using the term “dumba#@ republicans”) You keep making my point over and over.
Arguing about Palin is ridiculous. Many voters make up there mind on a whim, or on pre-concieved notions. There will be just as many moderate republicans jumping ship because of palin, as people going to McCain because of Palin. I am a 30 something male(Independent), and when McCain got the nomination in March, I was happy I liked Obama, and I respected McCain because of his williness to buck his party. But as the campaign went on I came to dislike McCain, because of the way he ran his campaign (piss poor). I disliked Hillary for the same reason. If you can’t run your campaign well how can I trust you to run the country. Then I looked at his voting record, and found out that he might publicly disagree with his party, he rarely votes against them over the last 10 years (not much of a Maverick). Also, He votes against veteran rights 80% of the time. I am not a veteran, but they will always deserve our support, and I can not stomach a politician who does not support them. The third thing happend over the last few months. I am a political Junkie and look at all the news channels and read lots of sites. I have personally seen (There is video evidence on U-Tube too) McCain state a stance one day and litteraly Deny he said it the next on three seperate occasions. Either he thinks we are idiots and ouright lied, or he really forgot he said it, which could be connected to age related Memory issues. Now the Palin pick was the final nail. I am a religous person, but Palin is an Extremist. She disagress with Abortion even in cases of Rape and Incest, she believes in creationism being taught in classrooms, she is against stem cell research, she herself stated a month ago she had no Idea what a VP does, and she stated she has no intrest in Foreign Affairs, and she agreed to run with McCain who voted against funding for Katrina related bills, and many Womens rights. On the flip side Obama has run one of the largest campaign in history, and done it effectivly, and within Budget. He votes for Veterans Benefits/Rights, he picked someone that disagreed with him and called him out in the primaries, and that person is without question qualfied to be president if something happens to Obama. For those who compare’s Obama’s and Palins experience, ask yourself this question. If you were hiring for a job, and you have two people with the same experience (They both have the same time in elected office) You would then look at education. Obama would most likely be your hire, because of the education. Now After I did my research I decied on Voting for Obama, and the Biden Pick solidified it for me. Please all of you do your own research and come up with an informed opinion. Don’t just go off of Fox News or MSNBC and remember when you have extremes the truth always tends to fall in the middle.
Richard,
Not sure what facts you want. But it’s clear by your last few posts that you are probably a pretty sloppy drunk. Please don’t make a spectacle of yourself at The Royale when we have the McCain-Palin victory party there.
D Walker, what can I say? Good luck and Godspeed with the rehab.
Can’t Tell The Truth (oops, I’m sorry) - should’nt you be out on a ledge somewhere?
Goodnight, and even better November for all.
MCCAIN-PALIN
P.S. - Sean, judging by your grammar and spelling, you won’t have to worry about interviewing Obama or Palin for a job anytime soon.
Good night all, and you’re welcome for my keeping your taxes down with my vote.
Mark - Or may I call you Dick? You think Obama has thrown his friends under the bus? Please allow me to remind you that your candidate of choice threw his first wife Carol and the children that he had with her under the bus in a big big way? He rewarded the woman who limped to the mailbox every single day of the five years that he was imprisioned in Vietnam hoping for some word of his survival by replacing her with a younger, prettier, healthier and wealthier model named Cindy (who incidently had her own substance abuse problem with prescription painkillers). Of course that was a result of the stress she was under due to the Keating Five scandal. By the way you are about as independent as my 8 month old son.
Night, night Mark, I’m sure your bedtime was 4 1/2 hours ago, and if it wasn’t it should’ve been. What a nutjob!!!!!!
NM Richard, found it myself…I’d really like some more info on all states, and what the gov of those states duties include… obviously we’ll find out more on this in the coming weeks..the AP article is written from an obvious slant, as the AP is famous for… I’d like to see the interview with the soldier from that article truthfully…
now go ahead with the rest of my post, the stuff you missed the first time….
