McCain’s choice ‘just your average hockey mom’
DENVER – Just watched Sarah Palin’s speech, and I see why John McCain picked the Alaska governor as his running mate.
There are several voter touchstones here that make her an appealing choice, none more obvious than her gender.
After toasting Hillary Clinton’s “determination and grace,” she rallied women by proclaiming strongly: “The women of America aren’t finished yet and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all.”
The “good old boy network” that she smartly referred to is something women everywhere understand.
Take that, Obama, who didn’t give Clinton a second look for running mate.
Palin (pronounced PAY-lin), 44, is a “regular sort’ who didn’t claw her way to office in the usual “kiss-up, kick-down” way of politics.
She’s got the compelling story you need today in media driven politics: A high-school basketball player known as “Sarah Barracuda” for her tenacity.
Her family has something for everybody: A Steelworker husband; son headed to Iraq; a baby just born with Down’s Syndrome.
She has a history, as McCain put it this morning, of taking on “oil companies, party bosses and do-nothing bureaucrats.”
McCain just shook things up and made the Republican National Convention in St. Paul more interesting. Stay tuned to STLtoday for full-blown, on-the-scene coverage.

Who are you trying to convince??
Sounds like her efforts would be best utilized in the comfort of her own home at this time.
Where did those family values go?
Any word if Palin recv’d a shady real estate deal from Rezko?
Any idea if she’s connected to the Cook County Democrat machine?
Did her son lobby her on behalf of MBNA?
Did she spend 20 years sitting in a church listening to a peculiar minister?
Has she acknowledged knowing a self-professed bomber of the Pentagon?
Is she a Washington insider that’s been marinating in the Senate for 35 years?
There’ll soon be some heavy, heavy drinking over at The Royale.

Hockey Mom?! Sounds Canadian. Are we sure she ain’t a fur-a-ner?
BobZ,
Are you always so not on top of it? Would you please explain the real estate deal that Obama supposedly recieved from Rezko so that you can show us all just how uninformed you are or maybe what a big distorter you are.
On the day John McCain, with a history of cancer, turns 72, the republicans choose a person with 1.5 years of state government experience to be their number 2. Nice.
D. Walker - Since you asked for info on Obama’s real estate deal, here’s a link for you:

“truth” - Palin has nearly two years of experience as the chief executive of a state, which I’d consider much better preparation for serving in another executive office than a couple of years in the Senate and no executive experience at all. And, unlike another inexperienced politician in this race, Palin is running for Vice President. My grandmother is 90 years old, healthy and of sound mind, so 72 doesn’t sound so bad to me. Perhaps McCain will step aside after his first term, and Palin can run against Hillary. That would be fun.
“…Palin can run against Hillary. That would be fun.”
Nick - agreed. But more fun than the Hillary vs. “O” D-primary rematch?
D.Walker - Do you need links for the rest of ‘em?

Here’s one independent Hillary supporter who, I think, just decided to vote for McCain. D Walker, how dare you suggest a mom can’t work outside the home when there is a father who has equal responsibility for the care of these children–if she is VP, he can be the primary caregiver, and I bet her kids will still love her and be proud of her. All those Dems thinking this just made it for them are just demonstrating how far off they are.
This was an absolutely brilliant political move, and the fact that Obama either didn’t see or didn’t care that picking a woman for VP was essential to keeping Hillary supporters on his side makes me really question his political astuteness. Frankly, being Governor I find to be much more relevant experience for the Presidency than being a legislator, especially one who spent the whole time campaigning to be Pres instead of doing the job.
Go Sarah Palin, for all us moms out here who want our daughters to know that they could grow up to be President!
