McCain’s Mo vet backers: Our guy has the creds

Leaders of Missouri Veterans for McCain, a campaign arm of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, weighed in this afternoon to emphasize John McCain’s military past.

Presumably, their aim was to counter the roundtables held elsewhere in the state today by veteran supporters of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

Here’s a statement from Missouri Veterans for McCain co-chairs, Joe Frank and state Rep. Jason Brown:

“Whether as a POW, a leader or a citizen, John McCain has always put his country first, which is why veterans throughout Missouri are eager to give him their support. He has been a tireless advocate for our troops who are currently serving, as well as all the soldiers from different generations who have returned to civilian life.

“Unlike his opponent, John McCain does not need to make campaign stops overseas in an attempt to beef up his foreign policy credentials, and John McCain does not prefer serving his own self-interest by doing whatever is politically expedient at the time. John McCain already has the credentials, the experience and the judgment we need in a commander in chief.”

You forgot to mention Senator McCain has the worst voting record in the Senate when it comes to veterans issues. I for one am organizing vets all over the state to work for Senator Obama (at least he knows Pakistan doesn’t border Iraq)

Jim, as a Repubican I believe in free speech unlike the Democrats who want to silence opposing voices. However, when you express your opinion, if you want to be taken seriously, it is always good to provide a link of some proof of your statement. What you please provide some links to back up your claim rather than just throwing out wild accusations. Here is what I found on the Democrats:

McCain has a great record on opposing the new GI Bill and then pretending he was for it the whole time!

Jim Mense, after looking at your links it’s proper to say McCain does not support those specific veteran’s issues promoted by left-veterans groups.

Senator “O” has not only been ducking townhall debates proposed by McCain …
he’s also ducking a military townhall for 6,000 veterans, service members, and
military families at Fort Hood, Texas

Makes you wonder why…?

BobZ. are we now making a distinction between left wing veterans and right wing veterans. Where’s your patriotism? Don’t you support our troops? Do you only support the troops that agree with your views? Are you a veteran that has to wait for seven months to see a doctor at the VA hospital? If you are going to wrap yourself in the flag like Senator McCain to get elected then be the strongest advocate on veterans issues in Washington DC, not one who has to be challenged for ones voting record.

Mense, No, we’re making a distinction between left-wing issues and center/right-wing issues. A veteran is a veteran.

You put forth a handful of left-ish links that don’t really prove anything other than some people don’t like McCain.

I’ve been in enough VA hospitals to conclude they should eventually be phased out. Vouchers so that veterans can see any doctor/hospital is the way to go. If only we could trust that politicians would stay out of the way once the new program begins.

“…if you are going to wrap yourself in the flag like Senator McCain”

Why are you feeling the need to tag your name with “USMC vet” ??

BobZ~I signed as USMC vet because I want other vets to join with me in support of Senator Obama. I’m proud of my military service and am still stinging from the insults you right wing nuts hurled at all of us that didn’t support going to war in Iraq. “You’re not patrotic, you don’t support our troops, why don’t you go burn our flag etc. etc.” Most of these insults came from people that have never served in the military. If you think by insulting me that will make McCains voting record go away you’re so wrong. Any link I would post wouldn’t please you because you are in denial and wouldn’t accept facts if they bit you in the ars.
