Pam Fichter, president of Missouri Right to Life, is emailing out copies today of her group’s defense against the GOP critics who have been blasting MRL’s endorsements and issue stances.

Right to Life has been at odds with some Republicans, notably Gov. Matt Blunt, for several years. Blunt, Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder and others locked horns with MRL over their support, and the group’s opposition, to Amendment 2 in 2006.

In the process, some Republicans have encouraged another anti-abortion group with closer ties to Blunt, Missourians United for Life.

You know the old saying that goes something like - MRL is as worthless as … on a boarhog? That is a pretty much where MRL is today. They are worthless in their endorsements and their legislative agenda.

Best of luck to the MURL - the real pro-life group in Missouri.

Great comment coming from Jetton/JasonB who gave lip service to the anti-cloning cause. You were using us and we have had enough. Rod/JasonB I forgot how did that Bob Onder race work out for you?

Missouri Right to Life won’t be done until they’ve elected a fetus to higher office.

Do you people really believe the words you are typing? Have you even bothered to read the comments by MRL’s lawyer/legislative director?

The obvious party hacks that are laying blame at Fichter’s feet have no idea what they are talking about. They are mad because they know MRL will not be manipulated by “conservatives”. I mean really, how many times can we see another push piece mentioning Partial Birth Abortion, which hasn’t been a real legislative issue for at least 5 years?

Point is, if you are really pro-life, you WANT MRL to do exactly what it’s doing. If you are a party hack that is playing the game, you will call MRL “irrelevant”, or make silly claims about it losing influence. And liberals on their board? ??!!WHAT???!!!

Stop parading as pro-life posters, or should I say Poseurs, and stand up for the ONLY Missouri pro-life group that risked telling the truth about how Amendment 2 REALLY affects our state constitution.

You people are just like the people who like to shout that they support the troops, but not the war on terror.

If those ppl were my neighbors, I would be scared to ask for their help in a real crisis. I feel the same about you poseurs who say you’re pro-life but would rather defend a party than a principle.

It’s no wonder the American conservative movement distrusts the party apparatus if it’s filled with phonies like you all!

MRL ROCKS!!!

Missouri Right to Life was brave enough to speak out against both Amendments 2 and 3. That was a big help to our unified campaign against both amendments in St. Louis. I always will be grateful for that.

Blunt just wanted a lapdog group to support him and his corporatist cronies as they claimed to be Pro-Life. Now, they attack MRL. The GOP isn’t pro-life, they’re pro winning elections and have repeatedly lied to good people of faith claiming to support life and doing nothing to prove it.

MRL backed initiatives that have passed in the last 4 years under Republican control

informed consent
24 hour waiting period
banning Planned parenthood from teaching sex ed in public schools
tax credits for pregnancy resource centers
local hospital affiliation for abortion docs to work in an area
requiring the same safety regulations as ambulatory surgery centers
increased funding for Alternatives to Abortions

Under Democratic control, more than 4 years ago

ban on partial Birth Abortion

MRL is angry because they couldn’t get a cloning amendment vote adopted by a prolife legislature. They feel betrayed and believe they’re support delivered that prolife majority. They are prepared to disavow away any legislator who will not fall in line with whatever vote they deem important. Otherwise, that candidate is a poser on prolife issues. If that means a NARAL backed candidate wins, so be it. They’ll take their chances and look forward to the next election.

If MRL wanted to educate voters rather than doing their thinking for them, they would provide more information or, at least, categorization for the ratings. For example, the rating could be differentiated between abortion-related versus stem cell-related legislation and, perhaps, between substantive versus budget/funding bills. Of course, by using labels such as “anti-life”, it’s clear that MRL’s intent is not to educate, but to inflame.

Jabs certain legislators?? The only two legislators that Fichter’ article called by name were Rep. Cooper (1 time) and Rep. Onder (3 times). Fichter’s hatred of my husband is never ending. Here is an actual transcipt of an autocall that I received on my home telephone from her on August 3rd, 2 nights prior to the August Primary election.
“This is Missouri Right to Life PAC President Pam Fichter. We have endorsed Blaine Luetkemeyer in the Republican Primary for US Congress. Blaine received our only endorsement in this race because he has cast the tough votes to protect life on the issues of abortion, embryonic stem cell research and cloning. Bob Onder has not. If you would like a complete list of our other endorsements and information on current legislators voting records visit our website at MissouriLife.org” “Paid for by Blaine for Congress, Inc.”
What I find to be most interesting in this call is that it is clearly an attack call AGAINST my husband. Is MRL free to make their own endorsements? Of course they are. But to insinuate that my husband has not cast tough votes to protect life is downright slander. And why did Ficher not list the other candidates in the race? Danie Moore did not receive the MRL endorsement. Brock Olivo did not receive the MRL endorsement. Why did she only single out my husband?

My husband has served the prolife movement his entire adult life. For anyone to suggest otherwise is complete madness.

I like your husband but he made a fatal mistake trusting Rod Jetton/Jason B. MRL figured out a long time ago that Rod Jetton/Jason B were liars and cared about winning not life. Your husband’s loss has more to do with his cozy relationship with Rod Jetton/Jason B than anything Pam did.
