Sen. John McCain just confirmed that most of Monday’s scheduled convention events have been cancelled. Speaking via satellite from KSDK television studios in St. Louis, McCain said it’s time to put party activities aside. “We have to do away with our party politics and we have to act as Americans,” he said.

He made no comments about convention activities past Monday. President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney had already cancelled their appearances at the convention in St. Paul Monday.

“Wouldn’t it be nice if Republicans cared about hurricanes even during non-election years?”

Bush’s speech gets canceled due to the hurricane … then, if we’re lucky, the storm breaks west like it’s supposed to, NOLA is spared, and the convention proceeds on Tuesday. It’s a win-win. We can only hope they don’t find a “make up” time for Bush.

Let’s see, 3 years ago when Katrina hit, on McCain’s birthday we all saw Pres. Bush at the airport with a birthday cake for MCShame. Oh yeah, McShame wasn’t running for Pres. then. Makes sense.

Nick…The President is the leader of your party. You, and apparently every other Republican, are trying your best to make excuses for his abscence. Not only excuses, but hoping he never shows his face… Now you want to elect a 90% McBush…..Heckuva job guys.

Bush didn’t appear for 5 days after the first hurrican struck New Orleans..Said he was on vacation. Cheney never did go until a month later…..Now it’s a big emergency for both of them. The convention lasts a week. What’s Bush going to do for 4 days? Roll-up his sleeves and get a bucket?….Pathetic, absolutely pathetic.

With the nutty Palin pick, and the scaled down version of the RNC because of Gustav (in other words, you guys couldn’t match Obama and the DNC if the entire country had Palm Springs weather), you right wing wackos must really think so little of the American electorate.

Here’s what someone who actually cares about people does in wake of the threat of a Hurricane: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/08/31/america/NA-POL-US-Elections-Obama.php

(hint: it’s not a photo-op at a emergency center)

good news: here is the re-scheduled list of events for the RNC:

8:00 AM—Opening ceremonies: “Spiritual Advisor” Pat Robertson leads with opening remarks and prayer asking God to condemn homosexuals, feminists, illegal aliens, and liberals…and anyone with religious beliefs outside of Christianity.

8:10 AM—Break (coffee & donuts served). Guests are encouraged not to make eye contact with food service personnel as they could be Mexican terrorists.

*8:30 AM-Panel discusses slanted mainstream media coverage of Republican Presidential nominee John McCain. Extensive analysis of all negative news stories about Senator McCain will be conducted and discussed (*see note on following page)

9:00 AM-“Ethics in Government” forum: Speakers include Vice President Dick Cheney; former aide to Cheney, Scooter Libby; former Attorney General Alberto “Stonewall” Gonzales; convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff (satellite remote from federal prison). Special Note: this forum has a back-log of “qualified” guests and may run the entire day in Conference Room C, thereby pre-empting other seminars and workshops.

10:00 AM—Guests are provided with free firearms courtesy of the National Rifle Association. Due to time constraints, background checks will NOT be conducted…instead the “honor system” is in place. If you have been convicted of any violent crimes and/or currently under the care of a mental health professional, please tell “Sheila” at the courtesy desk.

10:15 AM—Mimosas and stem-cell breakfast fajitas will be served in the Richard Nixon “Panda Lounge.”

10:30 AM -“Accuracy in Reporting: A Duty to the People” this interactive workshop is sponsored by Fox News. Veteran journalist Bill O’Reilly and college drop-out Sean Hannity lead a panel discussion on the critical need for objectivity and fact-checking within electronic media. Other guests include Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage.

10:35 AM-Speech and book-signing from conservative pundit Ann Coulter. The anorexic blonde (?) will be signing copies of her latest intellectual masterpiece entitled “Skanky Republican Whores for Christ.” Immediately following the signing, Coulter will supervise the bombing of a nearby Planned Parenthood office.

11:30 AM—Lunch. Menu: New York Strip Steak (rare), twice-baked potato, apple pie. Gin fountain available all day.

1:00 PM-“Profiles in Courage: The Jessica Lynch Myth” As part of the government’s “agreement” with former US soldier Jessica Lynch, she has been forced to attend this event. She will repeat the fabrications and distortions originally created and perpetrated through the media by the White House in relation to her “dramatic rescue” from enemy clutches overseas.

2:00 PM—Break-out sessions (married senators are encouraged to visit their mistresses, hire call girls, or sneak off to their gay lover’s studio apartments for R&R).

3:00 PM—Bush loyalist and Evil Incarnate Karl Rove consents to supervised DNA test in hopes of legitimizing his claim to be the true heir of Satan. Music provided by Manheim Steamroller. Opening act tentatively slated to be Carrot Top.

3:30 PM—Energy and Environmental Professionals discuss significant progress on issues like climate control and progressive energy policies during the Bush Administration.

3:32 PM-“The Constitution: Overrated and Rife with Loopholes” Various legal experts from the Bush administration carefully explain how centuries of misunderstanding of the United States Constitution has lead to the pitfalls of the “democracy” we now find ourselves ensnared in…but not for much longer.

5:00 PM—Closing speech from Fox News maven Rupert Murdoch. He will speak about the “fair and balanced” news coverage that his network has provided and how it has helped the GOP get their “messaging” out to the masses all under the guise of “journalism.” Focus will be on the positive influence of government propaganda as manifested by the media.

*Note: The media’s love affair with Barrack Obama pales (no pun intended) to the one they’ve had with McCain since he first burst onto the political scene. At current time, we have only been able to locate 2-3 negative or “critical” news stories about the Arizona senator…so this event might be canceled or reps from Fox News may step in and just make shit up so that the allotted time is covered.
