Obama on manufacturing plant in Cape Girardeau

Sen. Barack Obama paid a visit to Cape Girardeau and spoke at a clothing manufacturing plant there in May (see video below).

That plant has now announced that it is shortening employee shifts there and Obama’s campaign has offered up the commentary below. Obama has made it clear he does not intend to cede the working class vote in Missouri, particularly outside the St. Louis and Kansas City areas, to Sen. John McCain.

Obama’s statement:

“My thoughts are with the families and workers affected by Thorngate’s recent decision to shorten its employees’ workweek at its Cape Girardeau Plant.  A few months ago, I visited the Thorngate plant to talk about my plan to help Missouri’s working families cope with falling wages, disappearing jobs, and the rising cost of everything from gas to groceries to health care.

“This is an urgent reminder that we can’t afford four more years of the failed Bush economic policies that John McCain is offering.  We need to bring real relief to hardworking Americans right now.  That’s why I’ve offered working families an immediate $1000 rebate to help them deal with higher energy costs, and that’s why I’ve unveiled a plan to invest $50 billion in a stimulus package to jumpstart the economy and create good jobs. I’ll invest in American manufacturing, end tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas, and give them to companies that create good paying jobs here at home.  Missouri families deserve no less.”

And, for those that didn’t see it the first time around, video from Obama’s visit:

If the McCain campaign has thoughts on this matter, please feel free to send them along.

Dear Barack Obama:

It has to be McCaskill to win!

1. Claire McCaskill needs to be the Vice Presidential Candidate to capture the female vote in November.

2. As Missouri goes so goes the nation. JOHN MCCAIN 50%BARACK OBAMA 44% John McCain leads Barack Obama in Missouri, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey. When “leaners” are included in the survey, McCain leads Obama 50% to 44%. When just solid supporters are tabulated, the results changes slightly: McCain 48%, Obama 41%. Clearly Claire McCaskill as a dynamic campaigner can turn that around and help win Missouri and other states with her down home talking.

3. To run a real campaign based on “Change” having two candidates who are outside the beltway and that have not only the feel but the real pulse of the people.

Mr. Obama Please consider Senator McCaskill this week as you make your decision.

Thank you and enjoy your vacation time. Sincerely, Jeff Kenkel ###

Well good luck Claire if that’s the case, but it would be an odd choice to pick someone with as little national experience and foreign policy credentials as Barack has.

Yep, that $600 stimulus is really working out well. He wants it to be $1000. Heck, why stop there, give each of us $50,000. If he wants to stimulate, do it with something significant like a five-figure number.

There should be no need for stimulus checks. The “Bush Tax Cuts” were touted as the road to prosperity for all Americans. How are they workin’ out for everybody? HUH??

Was working fine for me until the Pelosi-Reid Do-Nothing Congress’ Save The Planet gas prices walloped everybody. Nancy & Harry promised to reduce gas prices, no?

But I haven’t suffered enough … please elect more Democrats to congress until we all suffer equally.
